Loss For Words

Korra had never been one to be at a loss for words. She was always full speed ahead, 110% power, all or nothing. She had opinions and she was loud about expressing them. She had never really thought about her personality, because she wasn't a thinker. She liked to do, and even more than that, she liked to simply be, be the force of nature that she naturally was.

Around him, it was different.

Mako was fire, sure, but he was also grounded. He had passion and drive, but always restrained. Everything with him was always restrained. His feelings scared him; he was afraid of being burned by his own fire. He liked to think things through before giving his all to them, before letting his fire roam free. He had long lost his nature; what Mako was, he was by circumstance.

Around her, it was different.

She had to check herself, her feelings at the door around him. He was too sturdy, they would roll right off. With him she needed strategy, needed to think before she spoke just for him to recognize her. And all of this on top of the crazier way he naturally made her feel. It was no wonder that too often, he left her speechless. She couldn't just speak without thinking, not around him, it could ruin everything; but she couldn't think and speak, because where were her thoughts?

He wasn't able to rein it in around her. Maybe it was the way that she was so defiantly herself, but he found himself more fiery than he ever thought possible. He surpassed his quiet words and due restraint; he passed into realms of action, of perfectly passionate fury, or furious passion, it was difficult to tell. She left him speechless, because certain things cannot be put into words.
