In a Name

LxLight yaoi (boy/boy love)

Disclaimer: If Death Note was mine, I wouldn't have to waste my time writing fanfiction to make the story go the way I wanted it to.

Light reflects on L's names.

___

Light flipped the coin over on his palm. It was American currency- a quarter- and it strangely resembled L. Not in the physicallity of the face, but in its essence. The coin was rare, double-headed, and old. L was odd, had one too many names, and a timeless soul that wondered.

Light berated himself for the analogy. What he had thought was not what he meant, and even in the depths of his mind he couldn't he find the correct words to sum up the detective. Light wanted to say that L was annoying and stupid, worthless.

In reallity, L was anything but.

The detective (strange as he was) was a brilliant man. His intellect brought him to greatness and shame. L lived a life behind himself, in his own shadow. Sometimes Light wondered if L even remembered his true name.

Lawliet.

L had chained Light up and invaded his privacy, his life. He had put Light on a murderer's box, had called him Kira- had taken away so much. As smart as the detective was, L simply could not understand. Kira didn't want to kill innocent people, in fact, he didn't want to kill at all. Kira simply wanted to create a better world, for everyone.

Lawliet was different. The other side of the coin.

Lawliet cared about Light, was his friend, his lover. Lawliet told him it was okay, I understand.

Lawliet was dangerous. It was him, and not L, that distracted Kira from his path. Light didn't want it to happen, but Kira knew best.

Lawliet had to go.

Light flipped the coin down as he pondered his decision. Could he keep Lawliet and L at the same time? Could he still be Kira with the wonderful man he had found?

All in all, it came down to the name he chose for the detective.

Kira dropped the quarter onto the floor.

What's in a name?

Confusing? Short? Sorry, I can't control my brain sometimes. Review/flame if you think it's worth it. Just don't complain about yaoi, LxLight being wrong, yadayada. If you clicked the link and read it despite the warnings, its your own stupidity.
