"I can't believe it is really over." Milly said to her knees. She had been sitting on a bench in the courtyard when Hobbes joined her without answering.
She looked at him and smiled. "You did a great thing, Hobbes. I knew you were a good person." The corner of his mouth curled up for a second but when Ethel went to stand in front of the two he dropped his smile. Considering what happened the night before, Milly had suspected Ethel to be a little more human, but she had turned to her old self. It didn't matter, Mildred knew she had a softer side, she had seen it. But it really still was utterly annoying.
"Oh, I hope I didn't disturb you two birds. I just came to tell you everyone's in the hall."
Milly and Ethel exchanged deadly looks and Hobbes answered coldly: "Thank you Ethel." Before standing up and waiting for Milly to do the same. Ethel left and Milly laid a hand on his shoulder. "Everything will be alright." She tried to reassure him.
"I'm glad one at least of us is optimistic about this."
Milly dragged him along, "Oh come on, you're not that bad. You just... seem a bit gloomy sometimes, and arrogant... Maybe a bit spooky-" Hobbes shook off her arm. "Okay, I get it."
Mildred sighed, "I didn't mean it like that, you just don't always seem as if you want to be liked."
"Well, maybe I don't..."
Mildred smiled again, "C'mon, we don't want you to be late, do we?" She walked further, Hobbes rolled his eyes and sighed but followed her to the hall.
Really everyone was there, cloaked and with sturdy looking faces. None of them liked the thought of Hobbes getting a second chance. They'd all liked it better if he'd just been sent away. But no, Mildred Hubble had to speak up. Tim and Azmat didn't mind either, considering Tim had helped Hobbes to save Weirdsister in the end but Azmat wasn't sure about it. He just trusted Tim.
So now Hobbes got to see the Allseeing-Eye again, to see what truly laid in his heart, in fact, it was just prof. Thunderblast who didn't know what to decide. Hobbes was a very talented guy, but maybe not the talent Weirdsister wanted to tutor. The Allseeing-Eye would speak the truth and decide for her. The fact Mildred Hubble was overly confident about it gave her a little bit more courage, that girl had something about her, she seemed to know certain things.
Hobbes looked as always, firm. He didn't show any emotions though Milly knew he was dying inside. She stood next to Cas and Ethel across the hall and smiled encouraging at him from under her cloak.
Mrs. Thunderblast told him to face the eye which hung above and stared at the hall. That thing really made him anxious, all those memories of his past. Things he so desperately wanted to leave behind, it didn't matter anymore. Truth would come out.
