The bond of brotherhood is sacred, and so is the bond between uncle and niece. Enjoy!

When it came right down to it, there was never really a choice to be made.
Sam Axe let out a slow and even breath as he stared up at the ceiling. One arm was wrapped around his newest girlfriend, and the other was draped over his abdomen. She was sleeping deeply, but Sam was wide awake. He wasn't certain why, but he didn't try to force sleep to come.
Suddenly his phone started to ring, and he quickly grabbed it before it could wake Victoria. He looked at the incoming number, then flipped the phone open.
"Mikey, do you realize what time it is?"
There was silence for a moment, followed by an ear-splitting wail. Sam winced.
"I'm sorry, Sam, but… I need some help. My mom's not answering her phone, and Riley won't stop screaming..."
Sam sighed softly. Fiona was visiting with some friends upstate, and this was the first time she had left Michael alone with their three month old daughter. And judging from the sound of it, his best friend was having a rough time.
"Let me get dressed. I'll be over there as soon as I can."
Michael's sigh of relief was audible. "Thanks, Sam."
"You owe me, brother."
"I'll put it on the tab."
Sam chuckled and closed the phone before sitting up. Ever since Fiona announced that she was pregnant, Michael had changed in so many ways. Some were hardly noticeable, and others were so drastic that he was hardly recognizable as the same man. He had been terrified and thrilled, and a million other things.
But when Riley had been placed in Michael's arms for the first time, Sam knew that he would never be the same again.
"Sam?" Victoria stirred beside him. "Where are you going?"
Sam got to his feet and pulled his pants on. "I have to go, Vicki. Michael's got a problem with the baby."
She pouted. "She's not even your kid. Let the father handle it."
His features twisted into a frown. "He's my best friend, and I'm Riley's godfather."
"So?"
"So I love her."
"More than you love me?"
That just made Sam angry. "Yes." He finished dressing, then hurriedly left the house.
By the time he got to Michael's loft, the baby had worked herself into a frenzy. Sam could hear her screeching all the way from his car, and he hurried up the steps leading to the front door of the loft.
Before he could knock, Michael flung the door open. "Hey… Thanks for coming."
Sam stepped inside and took the baby into his arms. "It's no problem, brother."
Michael stretched his sore arms and watched as Sam nuzzled his scratchy cheek against Riley. "Your girlfriend didn't mind?"
"Nah." The feel of his beard against her cheek soothed Riley, and she settled against his broad chest, her cries slowly easing. He could tell Michael later about Victoria, but the truth was he wasn't upset by it. If she couldn't understand that she would always be second to little Riley, then she wasn't the woman he needed to be with.
The younger man sat down on his bed and watched as Sam paced with his only child. "Sam?"
"Yeah, Mikey?"
"Thanks."
Sam just smiled. "Not a problem. Somebody's gotta teach you how to perfect the Sammy rock." He moved the baby fluidly back and forth to show Michael.
Yes, Riley Claire Westen would always be the most important lady in his life.
The End!
A/N: Aww, Uncle Sammy! Hehehe. He would never put a woman before Michael's daughter (when Michael and Fiona actually get around to making a daughter. LMAO) Thanks for reading, and please review!
