The scowling boy at the marketplace appeared to be looking for something. His gaze landed upon a table of talismans and figurines, and squinted at something. Recognition dawned on his face, and he began pushing way through the crowd when- WHAM! Deryn tripped over Alek's foot, colliding with the boy.
"Ow! Hey, what's your problem?" He had an American accent, like Eddy Malone.
"Sorry, mister. What're you so keen on, anyway?"
"What I'm 'keen' on? A very important artifact. Also, you're standing on my hat."
"Sorry." She dusted off the fedora and gave it back to him. "Are you a historian or something?"
"Archaeologist, actually." He looked impatiently at the stall, and jammed his hat on.
"What's your name?" said Alek, in an attempt at being friendly.
"Indiana." At this moment, a man resembling him waved from across the busy courtyard, at the table with the figurines.
"Junior! I found the talisman!" Deryn cracked a smile.
"Aargh... I really can't stay and chat." He shook their hands. "Nice to meet ya." Indiana pushed back through the crowd.
"He seemed like an interesting person," mused Alek. "Very young to be an archaeologist."
"Very interesting," mumbled Deryn.
