The eyes I once knew so well

The eyes of a tortured soul.

The boasting grey eyes,

Now are the eyes of a tortured soul.

Now sadly defeated,

The fire depleted,

Stare forth the eyes of a tortured soul.

And still I do wonder,

What goes on behind them?

Gone! The lighting, the thunder,

Blank are the eyes of the tortured soul.

With his face in his hands

He sees what I don't.

He sits, then he stands,

Torn are the eyes of the tortured soul.

And fighting back tears,

The sum of his fears

Have left him so aged, so beyond his years;

Tired are the eyes of the tortured soul.

If I knew what to do!

If I knew what to say!

These eyes are so true!

I cry for the eyes of his tortured soul.

But with time's slow move

His soul, it will heal.

And so it will prove

Ineternal are the eyes of a tortured soul.

And so they'll return,

The eyes I once knew;

The boasting grey eyes

That on my heart grew.

But for the present time,

The eyes remain pained

The soul remains tortured

The happiness feigned.

So stare back at me

The stormy, grey eyes.

So stare back at me

The once-lively eyes of a tortured soul.
