Mismatched

Sometimes you wonder how it can work. Really, it seems doomed to fail. You and him are just so... mismatched. Totally and utterly. He is George Weasley: rule-breaker, prankster, a boy who loves causing trouble much more than he ever loved schoolwork. And you are Hermione Granger, the complete contradiction of his entire being.

When you first began your relationship with George, it drew plenty of confused stares and badly-hidden whispers. A bit of difference is a fine thing, but you were both opposite ends of the spectrum. People were natually curious. What does she see in him; what does he see in her?Others were more cutting in their assessment of you both as a couple - in fact, the Slytherins took great delight in pointing out all the flaws in the new relationship.

Of course you took it all to heart. What if they were right? - maybe you were too prim, too bossy, too studious. George, on the other hand, took no notice of petty gossip, such was his carefree nature. This, worringly, only served to confirm your growing fear that you were both too different.

George always grins and kisses you gently when he sees your concerned looks, your hands playing nervously with strands of loose hair. It shouldn't matter. And it doesn't matter, not when he is there with you, alone.

You always focus on those times when you start to worry. Focus on the fact that his carefree nature complements your fretful personality, that his playfulness is a perfect antidote to a morning of study; that you both balance each other out.

That's when you begin now to wonder if maybe being mismatched isn't such a bad thing after all.
