A Funeral fit for a Diamond.
By Satine
"Tell our story, Christian, tell our story, promise me, that way I'll always be with you." She took her last breath then she was no more. And all you could see was a man, crying as he held the dead body of his Diamond.
Christian awoke, with a start, how many times had he been awoken with that dream? He couldn't even begin to count, it was too painful, he could still feel the tightening of his stomach, the way he had felt so alone, so furious, so heart broken, for the first time in his life. The Absinthe had always numbed the pain for him, just as it did for so many others. Today was the day of her funeral, and he was scared. Scared of reliving the pain all over again, scared of how he would feel watching his true love's body be lowered into the ground inside a wooden, oak coffin, with red roses laid out in a wreath on it, a diamond necklace and a piece of poetry Christian had written for her, before she had died. As this would go on he knew not even absinthe could numb the pain he would feel at that moment in time.
Christian climbed up the ladder to see Toulouse, his best friend and Absinthe companion. Toulouse was very happy to see Christian. "Cwistian!" He said as he embraced his best friend. "Are you weady for the funeral?" Christian's answer was honest but it was also emotionless for Christian hadn't felt any kind of emotion since she had died. "Yes Toulouse, I am ready." Then they both descended down the ladder and out of the Hotel Blanche.
The funeral was wonderful, it had elegance, grace, perfect timing and there was no shortage of Bohemians or Prostitutes it reminded Christian of the Moulin Rouge, the place where she had died in his arms. It was indeed a funeral fit for a diamond. Harold Zidler, Marie, Nini Legs In The Air, Toulouse, Baby Doll, Satie, The Argentinean, The Doctor, The rest of the Diamond Dogs, everyone except The Duke and his manservant Warner.
The coffin processed in, as heads turned to study it as it held a very precious person, who had influenced all the lives of the people gathered to witness the funeral. Christian and the others sat down and the priest stood up and spoke, then Harold got up to speak, then Marie, Nini , Toulouse and of course Christian. When it was Christian's turn to speak the church was quiet and still it was as if the people in the church were all statues, it was so quiet you could hear a penny drop. Christian cleared his throat and started to speak "Satine was the most beautiful courtesan in all the world, she taught me how to love, she inspired me to write poetry, she helped me to understand life and for this I will remember her for. And wherever she is now, I hope she is watching this as it really is a funeral fit for a diamond."
There was a few minutes of silence then the final prayer was said and the coffin was lowered into the ground and red roses were thrown into the earth, a diamond necklace wrapped around a piece of poetry was also thrown into the earth to rest with her forever. Long after they had gone Christian moved over to the coffin and sang to Satine, Come What May. "Never knew I could feel like this, like I've never seen the sky before, want to vanish inside your kiss, everyday I'm loving you more and more, listen to my heart can you hear it sings, telling me to give you everything, seasons may change, winter to spring, but I'll love you until the end of time. Come What May, Come What May, I will love you, until my dying day."
Meanwhile up in heaven, Satine smiled as he finished the last line and repeated these words to Christian, hoping he would hear them, "I will love you, until the end of time."
The End.
Author's Note: I hope you enjoyed this story, it's my first fan fiction, so I hope you like it.
