Title: Invisible Smile

Summary: A rather dark one-shot.

She was scared.

Scared of being alone.

Scared of letting go.

She was scared of life itself; without him.

He was gone.

Gone forever.

A tear ran down her delicate cheek.

She angrily wiped it away just as another one was falling.

She attempted to catch it, but failed.

It fell onto her wood floor. Splat.

Sighing, she walked over to her mirror.

She looked at her pitiful reflection.

He had told her that she was gorgeous even without make up.

She knew it was a lie.

But she liked thinking it was true.

Her saddened, tired eyes drifted to her dresser.

The picture.

It was of the two of them; together.

They both looked happy.

Looking at it made her smile.

The first smile she had had since…

Since he left her.

But, a few seconds passed.

Her smile faded.

She needed to talk to someone.

Not because she wanted to forget; she could never do that.

But because she wanted to make him happy.

He would have done anything for her.

So, now it was her turn.

She needed to let go.

For him.

She reached for her phone, seeing that she had one message.

She knew who it was from.

Him.

He had called to tell her that he was on his way to see her.

But, he never made it.

The rain had been coming down to hard and the wet roads made him lose control of his car.

Tears sprang from her eyes.

The tears were like the hard rain drops that had killed him.

She didn't delete the message.

She could never erase him from her life.

But, she could try to let go.

Although she didn't want to.

She could do it for him.

She would do anything for him.

She decided it was fair to find a way of letting go, but to keep holding on.

She scrolled down her list of numbers, passing his name. Ryan.

She could call the number.

But there would be no answer.

So, instead, she dialed the number she had been looking for.

"Hello?" His voice sounded sad, not corky like it usually was.

"Seth. It's Marissa." She paused. "Can we talk? It's just… Well, I miss him so much. I want to talk to someone who's going through this too."

They could help each other.

She knew Ryan would be happy to see them move on.

If only he could see.

Neither Seth nor Marissa knew that Ryan could see.

And that he was smiling.

End.
