Masquerade in Eden
In the Garden of Eden,
The strings of a guitar strum a lulling tune, and the notes floated through the air, and into the loud chatter of a masquerade party.
The guitarist scans the crowd, and his eyes fall on a group of men, wearing masks that were so perfect, it seemed as though they were real.
The man smiled. Softly humming along with the tune, he begins to entertain himself by trying to decipher the hidden truth behind these nearly perfect masks.
His gaze settles on a young boy, who seemed out of place in his little group of friends. His mouth seemed to be etched into an eternal frown, the man observed, as if he never knew the meaning of happiness, and therefore, has probably never genuinely smiled.
The man turned his attention to the smiling man next to the boy, who had the most wonderfully unique eyes of amethyst. Despite his happy appearance, those amethyst eyes seemed to show waves of tremendous guilt, that were desperately trying to be hidden from the others.
Lightly plucking the strings, the musician looked on to the blonde, who judging by his lab coat and test tube, was most likely a scientist. Like his purple-eyed friend, he was very energetic. But behind that bubbly attitude, he seemed to give an ominous aura, almost like he was hiding a dark and horrifying secret.
Fingers played faster as the music came to the climax, and the silent gaze slowly drifted to the last of the four, a sophisticated looking man with cold, unemotional eyes of sapphire. However, the guitarist did not fail to notice the rare and brief flashes of regret in those steely eyes of blue.
The melody slowed down, as the music came to a close, and the similarity between each of those men finally dawned on the musician.
For it seemed as though each of them as suffered a time full of agony and loneliness, locked away deep inside their hearts.
The strings still vibrated but the hand had already drifted away from the guitar, declaring that the night was over, and the party was to end,
And in the Garden of Eden,
The man silently prayed to the stars, in hopes that one day, when the magnificent melody of life finally stops playing, and the party of all masquerade parties end, those men will lower their disguises, and finally allow the truth emerge from behind the masks.
