The Last Night
Albus Potter lay on his bed thinking. He was thinking about all the exiting things he would do at Hogwarts. Accidentally, his thoughts strayed to how awful it could be too. Abruptly, he sat up. He shouldn't think of that. James enjoyed Hogwarts, so why shouldn't he?
He looked fondly around the room. It was tidier than normal, not that there was much of it to get messy. Albus's bedroom was the smallest in the house. It only just had space for his bed, a small chest of drawers and his wardrobe. His walls were filled with Photo's and drawings that he had stuck up. He smiled, this was the last night he would be sleeping here, and looked uwaving and blowing kisses. Finally his eyes came to rest on the big brown suitcase with the initials A.S.P on. He took a deep breath. Tomorrow was the big day.
'Al!' Someone was calling. Albus sprang out of bed and ran into the hall. He peered into his parents room and found found his brother and sister sitting on the bed with their mum.
'We're going to hear daddy's story again!!!' piped up Lily, eagerly bouncing up and down on the bed.
'Calm down', exclaimed James, pretending to fall over.
Albus grinned and jumped up on to the bed to join them. All three children looked expectantly at their mother.
'Your father lived with his muggle relatives for ten years, until he was rescued by a letter. A letter telling him that he had a place at Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! But his Aunt and Uncle didn't want him to go. They kept running away from all the letters. Eventually, Hagrid, the half-giant gamekeeper at Hogwarts came and collected your dad, personally.'
At that point, the bedroom door opened and in came Harry. He grinned at his family and flicked his hair out of his eyes.
'That story again, huh?'
He moved over to the bed and sat down.
After the story was finished, Albus, James and Lily separated off to their individual bedrooms.
Harry walked into Albus's room and sat down on the end of his bed. He looked down at him his youngest son with a look of pride.
'You OK?'
'Yeah' replied Albus, although he felt far from it. Harry raised his eyebrows, he always knew when Albus was lying.
'OK, I'm worried' admitted Albus. He didn't want to say why, he already knew what his father would say.
'About what', Harry sounded puzzled but he too knew exactly what was coming.
'What if I'm in Slytherin!' Albus exploded.
It was too much for Harry. He looked impatiently at the floor before loudly exclaiming,
'Almost all your ancestors have been in Griffindor. It is probably be less than 1 chance that you're going to be in Slytherin, that small! Anyways' Harry continued,'what exactly is wrong with being in Slytherin? I know some fine members of society who were in that very house.'
Albus gave his father a scorching look. He knew that his father knew exactly what he meant.
'What have I told you about shouting after Lily has gone to bed!' Ginny Potter's voice ecoed around the room. She stood in the doorway looking angry.
'Sorry', Harry edged guiltily out of the room. Albus looked at his mother anxiously, was she angry at him too for bringing up the subject?
As she drew nearer, her expression softened and she said
'Don't worry Al, your father and I will love you no-matter what.'
Albus nodded, feeling a bit better.
'Do you think that someday, I will do great things, you know, like dad?'
Ginny looked affectionately at her son.
'Of course darling, perhaps better.'
She looked distantly out of the window, her mind in another world.
'Perhaps better,' she repeated, more to herself than to Albus.
Suddenly, she leapt ito action, tucking him in. She kissed him goodnight and turned off the light. Albus lay for a while thinking about what his mother had said, before falling into a deep sleep.
