He walked into his house, slow and robotic. He stared at himself in the large mirror for awhile. His clothes and face were covered in blood. It wasn't his blood though. It was the blood of his pseudo- family. Klaus felt numb. He was always being betrayed by the people he loved and by the those who claimed they loved him; but this was the final straw. It was his own fault he couldn't trust anyone. His own fault no one could trust him. The hybrids were his pride and joy and they had turned on him. After all he had done for them. And he snapped. Klaus looked down and grabbed a small vase and threw it into the mirror, shattering both into a million pieces.

She felt horrible. She wasn't sure if she'd really done the right thing or not. Elena had sworn her to secrecy and she had just gone and blabbed it to Stefan, so now, not only would Elena hate her, Stefan was going to hate Elena and Damon. She may have just ruined any chance of the so-called "epic romance" ever happening. After Stefan had pretty much disassembled every piece of furniture in his living room, and had moved on to his bedroom, Caroline excused herself and headed home. She was sitting at her dresser, taking her jewelry off when she heard the knock on the front door. She cautiously went to check it and saw Klaus standing there in a bloodied suit.

"Oh, my god! Klaus! What...What happened?" She asked when she opened the door.

"They're all dead." He said, with no emotion.

"Who?"

"The hybrids. All but Tyler." Caroline tried to hide the relief. "Don't try to act like you're not happy. You were part of the plan. Weren't you?"

Caroline lowered her head. "Yes. But in my defense, I tried to stop them. They took me hostage. I thought they were going to bite me, and without your blood..." Caroline's voice trailed off.

"I did a horrible thing, Caroline. Something you'll probably hate me for." Caroline inhaled sharply. "I killed Carol Lockwood."

Caroline's eyes widened and her hand flew to her mouth. "You didn't..."

"It was either her, or Tyler. And as stupid as it is, I care about you too much. I could never kill Tyler because I know you love him." There was silence as they both gathered their thoughts. "I'm all alone now. I have nobody to keep me company tonight." Tears filled his eyes and slowly began to spill over. "I don't want to be alone anymore."

Caroline pulled him into a hug. He was broken and fragile. She'd never seen him like this before. Even after his confessions, her conversation with Stefan rang in her ears. What made them so much better than Klaus? Friends, family, trust. She could change him. She could be his friend. She could learn to trust him, and he could learn to trust her. It'd be a challenge, but Caroline Forbes never backed away from a challenge.

"You don't have to." She whispered in his ear. Klaus pulled back slowly and looked her in the eye.

"What?"

Caroline took a breath. "You don't have to be alone anymore. You've got me. I won't go anywhere. I promise." As if to prove herself, she reached up and kissed his cheek. As she slowly brought herself down, she looked into his eyes again. Klaus's eyes glistened. He looked so vulnerable and innocent. She suddenly had the urge to take his pain away. She reached up again and pressed her lips to his. They both jerked back at the same and stared at each other in silence. Finally Caroline said softly, "You should probably take your clothes off." Klaus raised an eyebrow and she clarified, "So, we can try to get the blood out."

"Right." He finally walked further into the house, and Caroline closed the front door behind him. Klaus shed his coat and began working the buttons on his shirt, while Caroline led him to the laundry room. She handed him the bleach and tried not to stare at his bare torso.

"I'm going to go find something for you to wear." She began to walk out.

"Caroline?" Klaus said. She stopped at turned back to look at him.

"Yeah?"

"Thank you."
