A look from within
I watch as you come home
Battered and bruised
From just another day at work
Limping in
And fall over on the couch
Purple bags under your eyes
Black and blue on your arms
A new gig line above your forehead
I seat with you a moment
Then I rest my head on your shoulder
"Its so good to have you home"
I lightly stroke your arm
Then you recoil in pain
From just a single touch
You go to take a nap
As I sort your cloths to wash
Your work cloths again stained
With blood from you and another
I just stand there and think
'He will be leaving again
Pretty soon'
Walking into the bedroom
After I hear the water turn off
I see you in a pair of shorts
Another bruise
Another scarp
Nothing new
Just another sight
You see me saddened
Open your arms for me to come to
We lay together on the bed
Wrapped up under the covers
"Its really good to have your home"
With that you open your eyes
"I'm glad to be home with you
I love you now sleep"
With that you fall into a peaceful sleep
I lay back against the warmth
"I'm glad to be home for you,
Just wish you were home more often"
That whisper was the last heard
As silence takes over
As I fall into the most peaceful sleep
That I have had in days
As my husband has been gone
I watch as you come home
Battered and bruised
From just another day at work
Limping in
And fall over on the couch
Purple bags under your eyes
Black and blue on your arms
