Prologue:
I scratched my head and stared at my father. Yes, my father. Until today, I had thought that he was a regular dad who earned just enough money to keep food on the table, but for the second time I was wrong. As he stood, he carried a long slender stick. Or so, it seemed like a stick. But when he muttered something unintelligible under his breath, sparks shot from the ends, landing delicately on the ground before transforming into a magnificent bouquet of flowers fastened with a long shimmery ribbon tied in an elaborate bow. He walked over to me and laid his hand down on my shoulder. I was speechless. "Lily", he said polishing the odd, baton-like stick. "Yes?" I inquired. After seeing magic for the first time, it seemed like almost anything was possible. "A couple years ago, two of your brothers were shipped off to boarding school." As if I didn't know. "Do you know where they went?" I decided to take the time to ponder this question and took a seat in one of my mum's rickety, yet charming rusty swings. "No". That was all I had to say for this matter, as after the summer holiday, they took off quickly and mysteriously. No one knew where they went, but they always ended up home for Christmas and summer holidays. Spring break, too.
"They went to school." Dad held the bouquet in his arms for a minute before releasing it, where it dissolved into a cloud of sparkles before making contact with the ground. "Lil, I know this is going to be hard to believe, but they went to a magic school, Hogwarts. And this year, you're going too." Now, if there could be one moment in my life where I could freeze any moment, it would be now. "I would suggest packing straight away."
