PROLOGUE: TOTAL ECLIPSE OF A STAR
It was silent aboard the Bebop. Faye and Jet could sense the tragedy that had occurred and were moping in silence. The bald man was lost in his memories, trying to avoid the harsh reality and always wondering, what if? If he were any softer a man, it would have brought a tear to his eye. The woman was sitting in the darkness of the restroom, cigarette in hand, weeping her sorrows away. They both had things they wanted to say to their friend, from final goodbyes to just letting him know that he's not alone in the universe. Words that screamed to be spoken, they gnawed both Faye and Jet to the core. It was then that she realized. She needed someone to talk to.
Faye opened the toilet door and shuffled out, mascara running down her face. She made her way to the living room where Jet was sitting on the couch. She took one at his face and burst into tears. He motioned for her to sit next to him, cradling her as she did.
"A-ar-are you a religious man, Jet?" She asked through choked tears.
"Not all the time, but now, all we can do is pray." He whispered as he grabbed her hand in his and squeezed. She rested her head against his shoulder, her lips moving in silent, wordless, frantic, desperate, prayer.
Miles away, on the surface of Mars, a green haired bounty hunter stumbled down stairs. "Bang" he breathed as he fell onto his face, breath escaping him. A star flickers out, invisible, but only for a moment. It reappears. A compete solar eclipse, no one is dying today.
Hours later, the man returns home. He walks into the living space to find his roommates asleep in each others arms. He turns on the stove, the noise wakes them up. Jet and Faye arise and look at him, faces as pale as ghosts.
"SPIKE!?!" they yell in disbelief.
"Yeah, what's up, guys" the cowboy replies with confusion.
