Title: Together Forever
Author: Mel

Teaser: Nick and Nat discover how it was always meant to be
Feedback: Feed me, Feed me.I'm thirsty.
Disclaimer: I don't own them, I just take them out of the toybox, play with
them for a while, then return them to the box unharmed for someone else to
play with. The song is owned by Queen and I don't claim to own it, either.
Notes: I have an intense dislike for the episode 'Last Knight' and am one of those people who refuse to believe that Nick and Nat are really dead, but if it did have to happen that way, this is how I'd have seen what happened afterward. It was partially inspired by a poem called 'My Knight' by someone called Fleurette that I read on FF.net.
Nat looked around, bewildered. She didn't know where she was or what had happened. She was in an open, hilly field at the edge of a large forest. A blue sky with only a few clouds, and bright sunlight, spread out overhead. Nick was nowhere to be seen.
She remembered Nick biting her neck, and taking her blood. He must have taken too much, she realized. He must have killed her. Now, she thought, they would be forever separated, and the promise he'd made wouldn't be able to be kept. Without her to help him, all of his efforts at humanity would probably be for nothing. A wave of sadness washed over her at the prospect of spending an eternity alone, without the man she loved.
She started to walk, despondent and lonely. What good was being in the light if she was all alone? After a second, her thoughts were interrupted by a voice.
"Nat!"
She turned to look behind her and immediately saw him. He was dressed in his full Crusader knight's regalia and astride a magnificent-looking black horse. He pulled the animal to a stop and dismounted as she walked toward him. He extended a hand.
"I thought you weren't coming," she said, taking his hand and looking into his eyes.
"I'm sorry," he said gently. "I never meant for this to happen. I just couldn't stop myself. And afterward, I felt so guilty because I'd broken the promise. I told you that I'd never leave you and I separated us. I couldn't let myself go on living like that. I let LaCroix end it all. But I don't think now that it was an end, just a beginning. Maybe this is the way it was always meant to be."
"Yes, maybe you're right.," she answered, smiling.
"We can be together now, and nothing can ever separate us again. "
"You kept your promise after all. And all of your efforts did make a difference."
"I love you," he said, pulling her into his arms. "For the first time, I can say it without being afraid."
"I love you, too, Nick." They embraced, and kissed for a long moment.
Nick stepped back, still holding on to Nat's hand, and led her toward his horse. "Come on."
"Where are we going?"
"Home," he said. "To be together forever."
He steadied the animal, and helped Nat climb aboard, then climbed on himself. He wrapped his arms securely around her and took the reins, kissing her on the cheek as he did. He snapped the reins, and they started off.
Nat smiled as she thought of what was happening. Every girl dreams of being swept away by a brave, handsome knight and being taken to his castle to live happily ever after, and she was having that dream come true. Her Nick, her handsome, brave Crusader knight, had come to take her home to spend eternity. She was content knowing that nothing could ever keep them apart again, and that Nick had finally triumphed over his darkness. For what seemed like the first time in her life, she was truly happy.

Touch my words with your fingertips And we can have forever And we can love forever Forever is our today"
