The Adoption
The sun shone sweetly over the delicious landscape of Sugar Rush. Two figures stepped of the sugar-coated train, holding hands. One was tall, almost six foot, the other's head came to just above it's companion's waist. They would have been easily mistaken for mother and child before they stepped off the train platform into the glow of the sun. "Well, shortstack, this is it." Said sargent Calhoun softly. Her husband smiled up at her. "I hope you're as excited as I am." He replied. Hand in hand, they walked towards the pink castle in the centre of the game.
President Vanellope Von Schweetz sat on the edge of her chair, her legs swinging. She was wrapped in a green plush dressing gown, and sipping hot chocolate. "Hey, gumball!" She called to Sour Bill, who was standing nearby. "Yesss?" he replied, turning to her. Vanellope took another sip of her drink. "Tell me something interesting," She ordered "I'm bored." "Well, ma'am…" He began "You'll never guess what was found at the bottom of a taffy swamp yesterd-" He was interrupted by a sudden musical tinkling. "That's the door!" he exclaimed, eyes wide "Excuse me, miss president, ma'am, I need to take this." And the little green ball hurried down the hallway to the Other Door.
"Welcome." Said Sour Bill in his usual lacking-enthusiasm tone, despite his excitement. "Please take a seat" he offered, gesturing to a cosy little office with his jellybean hand. Calhoun and Felix sank into soft marshmallow armchairs, smiling. Sour Bill climbed onto the table, the corners of his mouth almost curling into something resembling a smile. "Welcome." He repeated "Now, we've got a lot to get through. Let's begin."
Vanellope was restless with boredom and with longing to know who had been at the door and what was going on. Not bothered to go and change, she glitched back into her normal clothes and tiptoed down the hall to Sour Bill's office. Slowly, she rested her tiny ear against the door but all she could hear was her Bill's deep, drawling voice saying things she couldn't make out, and one or two quieter voices, that she could barely hear at all. Disappointed, she walked huffily back to her throne and cupped her chin in her hands. She reached over and opened a book entitled The Silly Squirrel. Sitting back so that her feet didn't reach the edge of the seat, she began to read aloud.
Calhoun reached forward and signed the page "Sgt. Tamora Calhoun" Felix beamed, took the pen and added his own signature "Fix-It Felix Junior"
Felix leaned over to hug his wife, then they stood up and headed out of the door into the throne room.
"Then...the friendly cat gave the squirrel some lunch…" Vanellope was reading out loud when Sour Bill walked in with Calhoun and Felix. She looked up in surprise. "Hey!" She exclaimed happily, hopping onto her feet on her throne. "What are you guys doing here?!" Sour Bill stepped forward. "President Vanellope." He drawled "I have been speaking to these two and they seem fit for the job of parenting…"
Vanellope's face made an expression of confusion.
"Vanellope," smiled Felix "How would you like…to be adopted?"
