I AM ALICE

I was alone in the darkness.

I was looking for something I had lost.

"What's wrong?" a voice asked.

"I'm lost." I wept.

"What else is wrong?" the voice asked again. It was strangely calming and coming from a white rabbit doll.

The doll hovered back and forth waiting for an answer.

"I have no memories." I answered.

"Why did you forget?" the doll asked, it's eyes turning into gaping eye sockets and bleeding

"Because I wanted to forget," I answered, not knowing where that answer came from.

But I still knew it was true.

"What was your reason for wanting that?" the doll asked, growing larger and becoming uglier.

"I don't know." I covered my face and cried.

"Who are you?" the voice asked.

A scythe appeared in my hands and in my rage I killed it.

"WHY?" the voice screamed in agony as the doll fell to the ground.

In that instant I knew my name.

It was just there and I was longing to say it, to hear it.

"I am Alice." I answered.

In a flash of light I saw a face.

I heard a nostalgic song that seemed to be calling me.

I reached out my hands to touch it.

I began walking and I had finally made the first step to escaping.
