"Kassidy! We're going to get caught!" Logan said. Kassidy rolled her eyes. "Get caught by whom? The only way we'll get caught is if you tell!" she exclaimed. "Kass! People will easily recognize you!" Kassidy looked down at herself. She was pretty decent. Kassidy was wearing: a black t-shirt that said 'Black is the New Black', black jean shorts, cut-up tights, camo combat boots, her owl earrings, and her moon-shaped necklace with a black jewel in the middle. Then she looked up at her hair in her face. It was originally brown, but now it was black, blue, and purple. Kassidy looked at her best friend. He was more normal. Logan wore a jacket, a gray t-shirt, jeans, and regular sneakers. "It's just a convenient store." "So? There are cameras!" Logan said frantically. "You just stay here and watch!" she hissed and was off before he could say anything else.

Kassidy ran through the alley grabbing onto the ladder that led to the roof. She whipped herself up and rolled onto the roof. Kassidy sprinted to the door and pulled hard. Locked! She dug for the lockpick in her pocket and jiggled the pick in the keyhole a few times before she heard a soft click. Kassidy wiped the sweat off her head. Damn Texas sun! she thought. Kassidy quietly opened the door and crept down the stairs. There was a clerk at the counter reading a magazine while listening to loud music. She shut the door behind her and slipped behind a shelf. She made her way to the back of the store. Swiftly and silently, Kassidy ran through the aisles. She looked back again and ran into a shelf. The clerk looked up from his magazine and looked directly at her. I need glasses. she thought.

Logan walked around the front of the store. He hated when Kassidy did this. She already dyed her hair blue, and to make it even better, she added purple and black highlights. He walked into the store, and he saw Kassidy. "What are you doing?!" "I got caught." Logan was about to scream his head off. "I'm going to call the cops!" the clerk said. Kassidy turned to him. "No. You will not call the cops." she said. Her voice sounded like velvet. Logan felt like he was in a trance. "I will not call the cops." the clerk parroted like he was in some kind of trance, too. Kassidy grabbed Logan's hand and pulled him out of the store. "I did get some snacks for tonight's late night gaming: some chips and a few sodas." she said as she showed him a bag full of the things she mentioned. Logan was about to say something when he heard a noise. Sirens.

"Well, it looks like we gotta run!" Logan said furiously. Kassidy huffed. "That always works, though." "That doesn't matter right now. Just run!" he said and run they did. They ran to the next street and further. Kassidy ran as fast as she could. She looked behind her and saw Logan panting. "Logan, hurry!" she said and grabbed his hand. She could hear the sirens get closer. She turned into another alley and opened a door. Kassidy dragged Logan behind her. "Close the door and lock it!" Kassidy hissed. He obeyed and locked the closed door. "Kass, you gotta stop doing this kind of stuff!" he said. Kassidy was about to say something when there was a bang at the door.

"Crap!" Kassidy said. "I got it." Logan said. He walked over to the door, and he opened it slowly. "Hello." said a familiar voice or at least it sounded familiar. Logan opened the door wider and there stood a tall, burly man with an evil, crooked smile. Kassidy' s dad. Logan let him in as Kass scrambled to a hiding place. "Where's my daughter?" he said while ducking through the doorway. Logan looked around. "I-she was just here. I-I'm s-sorry, sir." The man squinted at him and walked around. Logan watched him as he circled the room. He had no idea where Kass was.

Kassidy looked at her father from the kitchen. She held her two knives that her mother gave her before she died. She had one in each hand. She had enough of her father's yelling, hitting, and abusing. She was done! "Are you sure you don't know where she is? You have been living with us since you were 5 years old because of an unfortunate death. You must have an idea of where she could be." he said harshly. Logan shook his head. "I'm sorry sir. I don't know where she is." "Liar!" her father yelled and slapped Logan. He fell to the ground.

"STOP!" Kassidy screamed. Her father swirled around just as she stabbed him. Logan stared at her, mouth open. As her dad fell to the ground, he let out a blood curdling scream. His eyes were cold and glassy. "Kass, y-you killed him!" She blinked at him blankly. "He deserved it." She looked at her blood stained hand. Then she looked back at her father's body, but it wasn't there. Instead there was a pile of gold dust. Then there was a crash. She looked up and saw she was standing in front of a broken mirror and her hand hurt. How did I get here? She thought. "Come on, we gotta go." she said and grabbed a bag. Kassidy stuffed some food items, clean clothes, and other things they would need. She changed out of the blood stained clothes and into new ones. She grabbed Logan and dragged him to the door. Kassidy took one last look at the house she grew up in. She turned around and left.

They ran around the city steering clear of the main roads until they were in the wooded area outside the city. "Lets take a break." Logan said. "No, we have to keep going. We are still too close to the city. They will notice that he is dead and that we're missing." she argued and grabbed his hand, dragging him farther into the forest. He yanked his hand out of her grasp. "If we don't get out of here, they will find us!" she said grabbing for his hand. He pulled it back. "A little break, please!" he yelled, earning a flinch from Kassidy. She nodded silently and unzipped the bag. "Here." she said flatly. "Go change." That was all she said to him as she handed him a clean pair of clothes, and he headed into the woods.

Kassidy rummaged through the duffel bag, looking for her knives. They are beautiful blades, made of some kind of metal that shined like diamonds, black hilt, and the sheath of them had chains wrapped around them. She remembered the first time she held them, she was 5. Her mother was dying quickly. She suffered major bleeding from stab wounds she got from something Kassidy didn't know. "Take these, my young warrior. These are now yours. I love you." Her mother said as she died quickly. "Mommy, don't leave me! Pwease!" Kassidy would yell at her dead mother. She looked over to Logan who was crying. Kassidy then made to never show weakness. Kassidy shook the memory, tears falling down her face. She wiped them away fiercely and continued to look for The two blades. Once she touched the blades she heard a scream. She grabbed both of them and ran into the woods.

She searched for Logan. "LOGAN?!" she yelled frantically. "WHERE ARE YOU?!" She felt like she was running in circles. She had tears running down her face and sat down against a tree. She heard footsteps come, and she quickly climbed up the tree she was sitting next to. She looked at the ground from her treetop hideout. Kassidy saw two figures coming carrying a limp form. Logan. "We found one of them. Now the girl." one said and placed him down on the trees trunk. Kassidy felt around the tree for something to throw, her hand ran over a loose piece of bark. She ripped it off and threw it as hard as she could. It hit something. Probably another tree, but it got their attention. She watched as the figures looked in the direction the bark landed, "It's probably her. I'll stay here." said the one who is obviously the leader. The other nodded and ran off to go find her.

Now was the time. Kassidy jumped down and pointed one of the blades at the man's heart. "What do you want from me?" she said harshly. He was surprised, but he didn't say anything for a few minutes. "Answer me!" He looked at her eyes. "That doesn't matter. What matters is that I get you to camp." He tried to grab her, but she dodged him. "No way in heaven or on earth am I going anywhere with you until you give me answers!" She turned around and sprinted away with the man following her.

"We are trying to help you! Please come with us!" he yelled to her. She ignored him, pushing herself harder. She took a sharp turn, getting a little boost away from him. Kassidy heard a loud boom. She turned her head to see what happened: the man ran into a tree, but he was still coming. She face forward running as fast as she could to get away. Logan! She thought. Kassidy looked back. She turned again and ran towards Logan. She finally reached him. Kassidy lifted him up and dragged Logan with her. She started to run as fast as she could again. She looked back and saw the two figures running after her. She continued to run. Suddenly Kassidy was on the ground, searing pain shot through her leg. She got looked at her leg and saw the glint of a blade, then all she saw was black.
