Valentines Day. In his mind, a sorry excuse for the greeting card industry to rope him into buying a card for someone he couldn't care less about, and sadly this ploy had worked. He sat trying to think of a clever thing to put in the card he was now writing because this one was special. The only person's opinion that seemed to remotely matter to Lassiter was Juliet, his partner in the police force and though he would never admit it aloud, possibly his only friend. He wanted his letter to stand out from the millions she would receive on the fated day, and it couldn't be something cheesy such as, "roses are red, violets are blue" which Lassiter had no doubt was going on the inside of Spencer's card to her. It also couldn't be an awkward card about what a great detective she was, because after all they'd been through that seemed highly insensitive and cruel. He racked his mind for anything that could be said without sounding like a complete fool unaware of the eyes of a certain woman watching and chuckling at his odd facial expressions.
It was the laughter that caused Lassiter to look up and by performing this simple task, he was confronted with Juliet's widest and most content smile that though he tried to suppress it, made his heart do flips in his chest. Unfortunately Lassiter reaction was to immediately look down, which he later cursed himself for, and caused the situation to become more awkward than any card he could have written. Though the situation was not the best it seemed to jumpstart his writing, and before he knew it he was done, quite pleased with himself. He slipped it in to Juliet's drawer and on the next day he found it framed on her desk, next to a picture of the two of them. Juliet was as usual looking like an angel in her casual outfit with curly blonde hair falling perfectly into place, and Lassiter smiling like an idiot in his usual suit without is tie because Juliet made him take it off. 'Maybe the greeting card industry had some right with this holiday,' he thought as he smiled and chuckled under his breath.
