Blue. Black. Lightning and wind. A flash of white. Whispered promises. Then it fades, leaving a dying smile.

"Forget about me, Sasuke. I've failed you." The boy whispers, crying.

And Sasuke cries with him.

Then, nothing.

Sasuke startled awake, his chest on fire. The kind of fire that was warm but hurt you once you submitted. It was that dream again. The one that made him feel like he was far, far away from anything that was right.

He looked down at his wife, and something unsettling crawled in his stomach. The way she slept, eyes closed, bubblegum hair fanned around her face like a frame, she knew (or rather thought) she was loved. Pinpricks flew across his skin, and he shook his head.

Of course she was loved.

He loved her.

She slept on, undeterred by his nightly scare. Only when he pressed his lips to her wide brow did she stir.

"What is it, Sasuke-kun?" she whispered, emerald eyes so trusting, so full of love he had to look away.

"Nothing." he murmured back, "I love you…"

"I love you, too."

It was only when she was breathing evenly did he let go. The blanket crunched up in his grasp, and he stuffed his face into the pillow.

Naruto, he sobbed.

I can't forget.

Un-betaed, so if it is horrible, blame it on me. Not sure really what it's supposed to be.
