Silent Treatment
By Yukirei (a.k.a. Cosmiko Ling)

Disclaimer: I do not own Dynasty Warriors or any of its characters. The following is a non-profit fanfiction written by a fan, for the enjoyment of other fans.
Pairing(s): Sun Ce x Zhou Yu
Summary: Zhou Yu isn't speaking to Sun Ce.
A/N: Written for Shiy. This isn't quite meant to be taken seriously.

Amid the merriment of the victory banquet - the toasting, drinking and recounting of the past tough weeks, it had taken Sun Ce a while to realise that Zhou Yu was not talking to him. It was not immediately obvious whether it was deliberate. But watching Zhou Yu smoothly turn away to speak to the general on his other side the moment their eyes met and Sun Ce had opened his mouth to speak, the Little Conqueror knew that his guess was correct: his strategist was giving him the cold treatment.

Sun Ce's eyes darted to Zhou Yu every now and again even as he nodded to the tales told by the group of generals who he was supposedly engaged in conversation with. Zhou Yu seemed to be conversing pleasantly with everyone else but him, even offering occasional smiles appropriate of the joyous occasion. Sun Ce felt a surge of annoyance bordering on rage at the observance of this fact, startling the people around him when he abruptly placed his wine cup back on the table with more force than necessary.

After a third failed attempt at getting Zhou Yu's attention, Sun Ce finally resorted to abusing his position.

"Yes, my Lord?" Zhou Yu inquired, his tone iced with civility as they stood a respectful distance apart in the garden outside the big hall, away from the clamour of the celebration.

"Gongjin, you know I only used an order because you wouldn't talk to me," Sun Ce hastily explained. "I wanted to know why. Are you angry with me? Is it something I did?"

Zhou Yu's gaze was sharp, his voice still frosty when he spoke, "If you don't try to figure it out for yourself, is there a reason that I should tell you?"

Sun Ce tried to think as he was told to, but found himself helplessly distracted by how Zhou Yu looked at that particular moment - hushed tones coloured by the blanket of night contrasting long hair and pieces of fair skin set aglow in the bath of soft moonlight. It was an ethereal kind of beauty, one that surely transcended into the celestial realms.

"Reflect on what you were doing in this day's battle." Zhou Yu's stern voice snapped Sun Ce from his daze. "Charging ahead of our forces all on your own."

"Is this about what Zuo Ci has been trying to drum into our heads?"

"What?"

"A man and his wife should always stay together in life."

Post-fic A/N: I can't remember the exact words that Zuo Ci used in the game (despite having left a Qiao sister behind quite a few times during the mission), but I believe it should be something similar?
