Hi there, Stalker has tempted me back into fanfiction after many years. I love the characters of Beth and Jack (and Maggie and Dylan) so much and I can't find many ff stories at all! Like I said it has been a while though so please read, I hope you enjoy and please leave some feedback, good or bad!
"Jack, leave it!" He didn't even flinch. Shit.
"Please!"
Janice was panicking now. She hasn't meant to say anything but she'd been on the phone with Beth and Jack had overheard. How much he has heard she wasn't sure but it was enouh to get him interested and when she had refused to explain any details Jack had announced he was off to see Beth himself.
Something in her voice must have made him stop. He turned back to her. "I can help. I want to help her."
She saw the sincerity in his face. "I know you do. We all do. But you know how private she is. She only
Told me because she was scared and had nowhere else to go. If you confront her she'll just clam up... and probably fire you at the same time."
She could see her words were starting to sink in. "You know I'm right. Just give it some time. We've got it under control for now."
"That's just the point though Janice, for now! What happens next? What we do then? When she's lying in some hospital bed or worse?"
"It won't come to that."
"You can't possibly know that."
He had her there. "Jack..."
"Leave it Janice", he told her as he turned on his heels and flew out of her office.
Janice flopped down into her chair with a sigh. What a mess.
She unlocked her phone and dialled Beth.
"Janice?"
"Beth I'm sorry, I didn't know he was stood behind me. I don't know how much he heard and I haven't told him anything else but..."
"Janice, wow, slow down a minute. What are you talking about? Who's there?"
"Jack. Jack was here and he heard me on the phone with you just now." Silence. "He was asking a lot of questions. I think he is genuinely concerned but I know you don't want him to know and..."
"Janice stop, it's fine. Not your fault. Let me talk to him."
"He's not here, he's just left now, probably on his way to find you."
"Okay thanks Janice, I'll sort this out okay? Don't worry. Let me know if you get anything out of Perry."
Beth walked into the bar, her trained eyes searching the place immediately. There he was, hunched over the bar, what looked like a shot of whiskey in front of him. She took a deep breath, ignored the sick feeling in her stomach and walked towards where he was sat. As she got closer she noticed his long fingers were twisting the glass round and round on the bar.
"Some detective you are."
She knew she'd startled him as his head snapped up and the glass he had been fiddling with landed in his lap. He didn't seem to notice.
"Beth?"
