Bella POV
I had been getting better at keeping the shield off of me recently and now I could hold it for almost a minute. As long as Edward didn't distract me. When that happened, well, you know what happens.
One day, I was showing Edward The fuzzy human memories of those first few months I spent in Forks and the memories I had of him from back then. I was going through the days before that fateful day in the meadow when I found out why vampires stayed in the shadows during the day. I was going through how Tyler, Eric, and Mike tried asking me to ask them to the dance.
I was going over how Edward had caused a traffic jam to give Tyler a chance of taking me to the dance.
One little bump won't hurt them, just that glossy silver paint job.
"Ok, Bella, let me get this straight. You were going to hurt my BABY?! Why on earth would you do that? No matter what I did to you, how could you possibly consider going that to my baby?" Edward was serious, but I started laughing anyway.
He looked hurt, so I decided that I should explain myself. "Edward, seriously. It's just a car. We could've gotten you a new one if you really were that hurt by it."
"Bella… How could you have even thought of doing this to me? It's unspeakable. Even Emmett wouldn't even consider doing something like this." He sounded truly hurt, so I tried to assure him I wouldn't do it now.
"This was before, when you were… being mean to me. I'd never think of it now. And of course Emmett would never consider it: you'd know as soon as he thought of it and you'd probably kill him for it… or at least really hurt him."
Just then, Emmett popped up behind the couch we were sitting on in the Cullen's living room to comment, "Actually, I have thought of it before. There's a reason my Jeep looks new. Edward painted my old Jeep pink and when that didn't scare me enough he blew it up."
Now I was wondering what would have happened to my truck if I had scratched Edward's paint job that day, but what I didn't realize was that my shield was still being held off of my mind, so Edward heard that.
"It's funny you should ask that. I had an idea you may have tried something stupid like that from the look on your face. The answer is…either I'd have killed you and had my first innocent victim on my hands (see Midnight Sun (first chapter) on Stephanie Meyer's website) or I'd have just destroyed your car." He almost sounded smug with the two choices. I just couldn't believe he'd to something as
terrible to that to a car in it's golden years. Thus passed the first of many nights in a row that I beat Edward at arm wrestling.
