Honeyfur led Applepaw out into the bush right beside the Thunderpath. Several monsters whizzed past, almost making Applepaw run away in terror, but he knew it was the Clan tradition for 9 moon old apprentices to go on a 'Monster Studies' class with the medicine cat. Usually, nothing happened but strange orange things seemed to be pushing the Monsters into a different path. "What-" Applepaw began, but Honeyfur raised her tail for silence. They crept closer as a Monster stopped at the ShadowClan border and fell asleep. A Twoleg climbed out of it's belly and looked puzzled, as if it was expecting something else. It shook his head and grabbed a Twoleg kit, picking it out of the Monster's belly.
Applepaw nudged Honeyfur, wanting to go back and report, but instead she ordered him to stay there with sign language. He guessed she wanted to fetch Thornstar, so he watched the Twoleg's strange activity. It held a gray thing in one hand, and it's kit's hand in the other. It pointed the thing at the Monster, and it's eyes 'flickered'. Applepaw jumped. He didn't know Monsters could do that. Then, the monster growled and ran off, just as Thornstar and Honeyfur appeared. "See, the Monster just abandoned it's Twoleg!" she whispered to the DuskClan leader, nudging Applepaw accidentally as she told Thornstar about the whole thing.
Thornstar stood up once more as the sun began to set. "Good discovery, we should get back to camp now," he meowed. Noticing Honeyfur's annoyance when he didn't say 'And tell everyone,' he added a bit extra on to his statement, "And don't worry, I'll tell the whole Clan tomorrow." Honeyfur seemed satisfied with that answer, so she flicked her tail in dismissal to Applepaw. He ran back to camp, eager to tell the other apprentices.
"Hehehe, lucky me," he repeated to himself over and over as he crossed the river swiftly.
Soon he was back, and he had told everyone he knew well about the Monster. They all didn't seem to care. Applepaw was extremely disappointed... maybe it was because he wanted the trip on his own?
As he slept, a small voice whispered in his mind,
'Let that be a lesson learned. Nobody listens to a selfish cat.'
