whispering like it's a secret only to condemn the one who hears it

It's nothing like the feeling she gets after answering something wrong or not understanding the assignment.

Besides, those things don't matter. And who cares about if she gets the highest grades. Who cares about her?

It's not petty like those papers and history, little nothings that are just so insignificant. No, it's the crashing and banging in her head, the whispers that make her question just about everything.

And every second she's being brought down by the realizations of who she really is...a worthless waste of space, an unfortunate witch who's only in the way.

And she's completely being swallowed by the darkness, falling faster and faster, no more light and no more happiness. But does she really deserve the light?

During the night, the only shine she sees is when she twirls the locket around her fingers, and the moon's glint bounces of it and she can briefly see her reflection.

She doesn't see why he would ever want to protect her or hold her hand. She definitely doesn't see why the other one looks up to her and thinks she is smart and admires her knowledge. Because all she really is, after all, nothing.

And at night, she can't sleep, and during the day, she can't think. But that's how it is, after years of being called intelligent while really figuring out that you're dumber than the rest of them. Because really, that's all she is. Completely empty of all sense, not even knowing what's going on.

And this hurts her and scars her till she can't feel anything anymore. But having feeling is a blessing, and after all, she's nothing, so she doesn't need to receive any gifts.

And she hates hearing them ask her about how she feels and if she needs a break from the locket. Because, honestly, why should they worry about her?

She doesn't matter. So why did they even bother to ask her to come along?

Why does she protect the locket around her neck? Because, of course, at some point she was going to lose it.

So, to stay out of everyone's way, Hermione just sits outside of the tent and doesn't speak. She doesn't deserve to speak. She doesn't even deserve to be seen.

And the absolute darkness consumes her until there's no reason to be there at all.
