It took a while for Marcus's eyes to adjust to the cell's darkness as he awoke, instantly noticing a slight pain in his head. Looking around, he noticed two others locked up with him. An Imperial man and a Bosmer woman, both of whom gazed in his direction.
After a moment of eye contact, the Imperial spoke. "Ah, Breton. You're awake."
Marcus nodded. "Indeed I am. And who are you?"
"You can call me Samuel." He replied, before gesturing to the Bosmer. "And this is Selene."
His tone darkened. "We're both here because of the bloody Thalmor. Sat here, just waiting for the Headsman's Axe. And you?"
Only then did Marcus truly remember the situation he was in. "Thievery." he replied "Not that I'm new to it, but one can only steal so many Sweetrolls before being caught."
He seemed to have caught Selene's interest, as he could see that she was listening intently. Her expression was one of concentration, as if she were silently plotting something. "A petty thief, eh?" She teased. "Well I suppose you could come in handy. If you're resourceful, that is."
Marcus smirked. "I suppose you're planning on getting out, then?"
Selene nodded.
After a while of looking around, cautious not to catch the attention of the dungeon's guards, Marcus noticed a weak-looking area of the cell's wall. He called over the others and pointed it out.
"Looks like we weren't the first ones to try and escape. If we put enough pressure on the wall here, we may be able to break through."
The others agreed, simultaneously pushing on the mortar until they managed to break through, revealing a tunnel.
Without looking back, the trio fled.
Thanks for reading the prologue and sorry that it's so short. This is my first time really trying to write something like this, so it's obviously not the best in the world. (As I'm sure you've noticed.)
I'd REALLY appreciate any constructive criticism and I'll hopefully be writing more soon!
