Author's Note: The story begins. But is it any good? That's for you to decide. This is a short prologue to the first (small) part of the story, where N is living with Pokémon.

A young child lay on a pile of leaves, crying softly. Oddly enough, it had very light green hair. A bulky figure then loomed over the child, whose cries began to get quieter.

"What's this thing?" A voice said in a child-like manner.

"I believe it is a human baby, Oru." The bulky figure replied, sounding feminine.

"A human baby? Why isn't it with its parents?" Oru asked, sounding confused.

"...I don't think it has parents." The figure reached out with red, furry and powerful arms and picked up the baby. The baby stared with teary eyes, then it surprisingly spoke. In PokéSpeech.

"M...Mother?"

The figure, who actually was a Darmanitan, smiled at how the baby could understand her. She then began walking away with it in her arms. Her companion, a Zorua, looked at her with a curious expression.

"What are you doing?"

The Darmanitan simply answered with: "Taking him in. Our family just gained another boy."

The two Pokémon and the human baby arrived at a small cave. Inside it were several young Pokémon: Darumaka, Woobat, even Vanillish. There were also a Carracosta and an Archeops, two incredibly rare Pokémon who, were watching over the others. The Archeops, upon seeing the Darmanitan, swooped over to her to see what she was holding and was visibly surprised to see that it was a human.

"A human? How'd one of those get all the way out into the heart of Lostlorn Forest?" The ancient Pokémon asked.

The cave was actually a place that lost Pokémon are taken to when they are discovered deep within Lostlorn Forest. It served as an orphanage of sorts, which is why there were so many young Pokémon around.

The Darmanitan shrugged. "No idea. But I know that he's definitely lost all hope of finding his parents. No human has ever made it this far into the forest alive... Only Pokémon can navigate it." She set the baby down on a pile of dead grass that served as a bed. The Archeops looked at him, then looked back at the Darmanitan.

"Okay... We'll keep him for now. But he needs a name..."

"How about Ningen?" The Carracosta had finally decided to see what all the fuss was about, and was eyeing the boy inquisitively.

"That's actually not a bad name." The Darmanitan admitted. "Let's go with that."

The baby, who was now named Ningen, sat facing the three adult Pokémon and wondered what would become of him.

Author's Note: Ningen means human, and it begins with N. Longer chapter next time!
