Authors note: ok, I know, I have two other stories, which I haven't updated in a SUPER long time, but I still can't get rid of the writer's block, which sucks. Hopefully some time later I will be able to continue them, but as of now, they will be on hiatus. But on anther note, this is a one-shot, so please read and review. Good or bad. I just love reviews. Ok, so enough with this author's note. R&R
Disclaimer: I do not own, sadly enough
It was another sunny day and 8 year-old Rory Gilmore was headed towards the bridge for some much needed alone time. Between work at the inn and at school, the duo had been busy all week, but now Rory would be able to get some reading done before their major movie night later on.
Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard splashing coming from her bridge. She followed the noise and found that it came from someone she hadn't seen before. He had been throwing rocks into the water causing the splashing she had heard.
She decided to find out why he was at her bridge. She walked up to him and introduced herself.
"Hi my name is Rory, who are you?" she asked the boy, while sitting down.
"Go away." He asked while trying shielding his face from Rory. It was then that Rory noticed he had been crying.
"Why are you crying" she asked with a softer tone. She had now moved closer to the boy to get a better look.
"I'm not crying. Now, go away." Replied the boy, while hastily wiping away some of his tears.
"I promise I won't tell anyone." She said, ignoring his earlier plea. "Pinky promise." She added, while holding up her pinky towards him.
He looked at her, then at her pinky, then towards her. Thinking he could trust this girl, Rory, he hesitantly agreed, "Ok, but don't tell a soul." He warned her while they shook pinkies.
"I won't, I promise….. Um... I don't know your name." Rory said
"Well, my names jess." Jess replied.
"Ok, well jess I promise I won't tell a soul, not even Steve." She said
"Who's Steve?" asked jess.
"My toaster." Said Rory like it was the most normal thing in the world.
"Well, ok." Replied jess, confused by the girls logic. "Well, my whole life I've lived with my mom, in New York City, and today we were visiting my uncle Luke-"
"Luke? Oh, he has the best coffee in the world." Exclaimed Rory, interrupting jess. "Oh, sorry, please continue." Replied Rory sheepishly.
"well, we were visiting my uncle Luke, and a while later, when I came back from a bookstore, I couldn't find my mom, so I asked uncle Luke, and he said she left. For good!" said jess, throwing another rock into the water causing it to ripple. "But that's Liz for you." He said
"I'm sorry." Said Rory, thinking how could a mother practically abandon her own son? She thought if that ever happened to her, but knew her mother would rather die than giver her up, but it still made her shudder just thinking about it.
"It's not your fault; Luke told me she said she wanted to clean up her act, so I could have a better life. That she would be back before I know it but she won't." jess replied sadly.
Suddenly Rory kissed his cheek causing a slight blush to appear on jess's cheeks. He looked up to see her retreating form.
"I hope you feel better!" she yelled over her shoulder before she turned the corner and was out of sight, thinking maybe it won't be so bad to share their bridge.
Suddenly jess felt much better, and thought that maybe staying here won't be so bad.
A/N: ok, well please review telling me if you liked it, hated it, should I expect torches and pitchforks? Please tell me how I did, so if I write another one, I can improve, thanks!
