I sighed, my face red from the sun. I pulled at the weeds in the field, piled up branches and stacked rocks.
"I wouldn't have to do this… if I still… lived in the city!...There done… for now." I wiped my forehead, somewhat proud of my work but I couldn't help but look at the rest of the field I had left to do.
I heard someone walking behind me. I turned, it was Mark.
"Hey Mark, how's it going?"
"Great, you?"
"Yeah, I could be better…"
He crouched down next to me, "Tired?"
"You have no idea; I've been working every single on this field. The weeds, rocks and branches just come back!" I yelled frustrated.
Mark smiled and offered me his hand. "Why don't you relax today? I'll do the work."
I thought about this. "I don't know…"
"Come on, I can do the work."
I nodded, and as I began to walk towards the house I said "I have to pay you back."
I wasn't sure if he had heard me or not. He seemed really caught up in the work he was doing, and I knew sometimes he didn't hear me when I talked to him.
I walked towards my house. If I was going to relax, I would probably spend the day sleeping or sit and read a book.
Of course, sleeping sounded like a better idea.
When I opened my eyes, it was late afternoon. The sun was setting. I ran outside, Mark was just finishing his work. He waved and said he'd be finished in a few minutes.
I waited.
"Sorry about that! I hope I didn't keep you waiting! Anyways, there isn't much left to do!" he said happily.
I smiled. "Thanks Mark, this helps a lot, you know."
He shrugged, rubbing the back of his neck "You work hard, so I thought I'd help out." He blushed.
While his guard was down, I kissed him on the cheek. He stopped to look at me.
"Didn't I tell you I'd pay you back somehow?"
"You did?"
