He tries not to meet the boy's eyes, knowing the hurt he'll see there.

He wishes he knew what to say to him, how to make him smile; anything would be better than this. But what could he say? What can he POSSIBLY say?

With a sigh he lets the silence stretch out between them, awkward and uncomfortable, although he knows it hurts the boy-my son- to have it between them. It's a wall, of sorts, and one he realizes suddenly he wants more than anything. He doesn't know how to deal.

Will was able to completely give his heart to Elizabeth.
