N/A: Written for CLAMP Secret Santa 2016 For spillingthefarm J the prompt was kurogane dadding dadly. Hope this was what you were looking for, I ended up just writing a drabble.
There were times when Kurogane just wanted to pull his hair out or maybe hit something… hitting something seemed like a much better option. This little group he traveled with could be frustrating at times. There was the little pork bun Mokona that loved to say whatever came into its head, and cause embarrassment to all parties involved. There was the princess who sometimes wandered away and seemed clueless about many things in life, but that could be due to her memory loss. There was Syaoran who seemed to give every problem they encountered his all to the point of hurting himself and seemed to try and take on the world by himself. Then there was that magician Fai. How seemed to make a sport out of annoying him. Who smiled too much and told half-truths too often. Somehow, he had begun to think of these people as important to him.
Throughout their journeys, he seemed to slowly want to help them out of trouble that they always seemed to encounter. At first it was just to get to the next world quicker, one world closer to his Japan. Then it grew. He seen how hard Syaoran tried to protect the princess. Through his words and actions. He deiced that the kid needed a better way to protect himself. One that wouldn't put his body at risk. So, he began to teach him how to handle a sword, and how to compensate for his weaknesses. He saw the princess trying her best to help them out even though she barely knew them or who she was. And felt that he needed to protect her as well.
Then there was that magician. Who called a ninja by cute names? He annoyed him to no end. But Fai still tried to help the kid out and offer insight to any magic in the world even if he wouldn't use his own. He often seemed to care little about himself which bothered Kurogane even further. All life was precious and you shouldn't waste yours by trying to throw it away for no reason. But even so he found himself slowing growing fond of him as well.
In some worlds, he found himself having to act like the responsible adult when Fai would wander away with Syaoran and Sakura. It was times like this that he found Mokona's teasing to be almost true. He often looked after some of the more practical needs of the group. He was more comfortable addressing those types of needs. He was never good at expressing his feeling and preferred to show it rather than say it. But just because he had problems expressing himself didn't mean he didn't notice the hidden issues his companions had. He just didn't know how to help or address those issues.
He was still going to get back to his home country, he had made a promise to protect princess Tomoyo after all. But if on the way, he made the journey a little it easier and safer for his little traveling group, then was it really such a bad thing?
