Panserbjorne
It was winter in Svalbard. The ice covered the sea, and it was time for the armoured bears to leave the land and venture into the Artic Ocean, in order to hunt the seals and the other large marine creatures. Iorek Byrnison, the king of the of the ice bear race, was the first to leave. He walked along the ice and swim in the icy water, searching for food. He found a whale corpse, and started to eat it.
"I can see you found food more quickly than me" said another bear, who was following the king.
"I'm always lucky. You should learn from me."
"I'm no cub. I don't need to learn, king."
"Shut up and eat!" said Iorek, inviting the other bear to join the feast.
Baldur Midgardson laughed and joined his old friend. Both had met when they were still cubs, and, alongside Lyra Belacqua, he was one of the king's best friends, and his royal adviser. Despite being solitary creatures, the armoured bears are not anti-social, and in fact the two bears enjoyed each other's company. They would have more chances to find food if they remained together.
Suddenly, a scream was heard, and an angel appeared, being chased by a cliff ghast. Lacking true flesh, the winged being was much weaker than the monster, and she had already fought too much. She felt in the ice; one last attack and the particles of Dust she was made off would disconnect, and she would vanish. Fortunately, Iorek killed the cliff ghast before its attack. Baldur walked towards the angel.
"Are you okay?"
"Yes, thank you all. I was looking for you, king of the Panserbjorne" she said.
"Me? Why me?"
"Because, my king, I'm Xaphania, the angel that spoke to Lyra and Will."
"You're the angel that told them they had to be separated, aren't you?"
"Yes. But I discovered a way for them to be together. The answer is in Lusitania…"
Before she could finish the phrase, however, a blizzard blew and she vanished.
"If there's a way to make Lyra and Will together again, then I shall join them again. They don't deserve to be separate!"
"But, my king, we need you here."
"Lyra's my friend. I can't live knowing that she's sad and that I could end her sadness!"
"But Iorek, how will you go to Lusitania?"
Will Iorek join the two teenagers again? Who will rule in Svalbard until he returns?
Oh, and by the way, Lusitania is an old name for Portugal, in case you don't know.
