" Hello Hikaru."
" Oh hey, Kaoru. Going somewhere today? Pretty early for you to change out of your pajamas on a Sunday," came the reply.
" Earlier this morning, Haruhi asked me to go to the amusement park with her and the others"
" Sounds fun."
" Too bad you aren't coming…"
" Yea… but you can go for me!"
Kaoru frowned and began growing teary eyed.
" Hey don't cry, you're making me want to cry, too."
The two both rubbed their eyes at the same time.
" Mm, I understand. I'm sorry Hikaru."
" That's right, don't make your older brother, me worry about you okay?"
" Yes, Hikaru," Kaoru obediently replied his mirror image. " Oh! I forgot to tell you! The other day Haruhi brought in a box of cookies from the commoner's supermarket! They were surprisingly delicious. I should've brought some home for you to try! But Hunny and Tamaki ate so much; there wasn't any left."
" That's okay. I can try another time, just ask Haruhi to buy another box. Hey! You can ask her today!"
" Oh that's right! I can ask her today! That didn't even hit me! You're always the smarter twin, Hikaru," Kaoru replied.
" But you're the thoughtful twin."
" Really…"
" Yup"
"Ah! If I ask Haruhi to help me today, then I shouldn't pull the prank on her today! It'll just get her mad. Your idea was so good, too. I guess I'll tell Tamaki to call it off. He was never as fun to pull pranks with as with you anyways…" Kaoru sighed at the end of his sentence.
There was silence between the two before either of them spoke up again.
" Kaoru, when are you going anyways? To the park that is; it's almost 11 now."
" Oh! Tamaki said he'd pick me up at 11! But he'll probably get here late like usual. There's no need to hurry. I'll just wait till he phones me." Kaoru shifted his position, resting his chin on his knees." Hikaru did the same.
" You know, on Friday the math teacher actually called on me by your name. The whole class like gasped at the teacher. It was so funny." Kaoru laughed at the memory.
"Well, we are twins identical twins in fact; the infamous Hitachiin Brothers!"
" I know, I was just surprised; you're not even in my class anymore."
---
Mrs. Hitachiin quietly entered her sons' room. The Suou's son had arrived at the front when she had just stepped out of her car. She had just came home from her trip to France. She had finished her work there early and decided to give Kaoru a surprise. After brief chat with the young Suou, she decided to fetch Kaoru herself along with surprising him with her return.
Kaoru was not in his room, but his washroom door was ajarred. Hearing voices, Mrs. Hitachiin walked over to the washroom door, and peered inside. Her eyes widened at the sight. Stepping back, a tear rolled down her cheek. She left the room as quietly as she had entered. From the hall, she looked towards the room entrance and cleared her voice.
" Kaoru!"
Very quickly, her son ran out with a smile on his face and embraced her.
" Mom! You're back early!"
" Yes dear, and your friend is waiting for you at the front."
" Wow, he's actually here on time?" Kaoru said surprised. " But now that you're home, I want to spend time with you!
" You can spend time with me when you come back. I'm tired from my trip, so I want to rest for a bit. You go on and have fun a the park first."
" Oh okay! Then have plenty of rest. I won't wake you if you are still sleeping when I come home!" Kaoru gave his mother a quick hug before running down the stairs and out the front door,
Mrs. Hitachiin sighed and walked towards the room at the end of the hall; the room Kaoru never entered. She felt tears weltering up in her eyes once again as she looked at the picture of Hikaru; a mirror image to Kaoru. " Hello Hikaru…" she mumbled before falling to her knees in front of the alter weeping silently.
