(Guy/Marian)

(Guy/Marian, just a short and cute ficlet I had to write.)

Marian gazed out longingly through the window of her room and eyed the streets of Nottingham. She sighed wistfully, feeling like a caged bird who wanted to spread her wings and fly. There was no escaping the castle at this time of day, especially when the guard was so attentive thanks to Guy's shrewd eye. The thought of the leather-clad and brooding man made her shift slightly.

Suddenly there was an insistent knocking at her door, and she jumped. "Yes?"

"Marian," a deep voice replied solemnly, yet with a faint eagerness.

Marian sighed. "Come in."

The door burst open after she had barely uttered the words. There stood Guy, tall, imposing, and carrying his usual somber and fierce countenance with him. Marian glanced at him, and then noticed that he had his hands folded behind his back. He opened his mouth, but no words came out.

"Yes Guy?" she asked curiously. "What did you want?"

Guy shifted and cleared his throat. He moved his hands and within them was clutched a handful of freshly picked flowers. Marian stared at them as he held them out to her. She did not take them however, and Guy frowned and he averted his gaze, trying to hide his embarrassment with gruffness.

"Well, I got you some flowers. Take them already."

His grip around the flowers was very tight and Marian hesitantly took them and stared at them. They smelled pleasant, yet she said no words at first. Guy was watching her nervously and her silence made him uncomfortable.

"Do you not like them?"

Marian glanced at him and smiled slightly. "Of course I do. It'll brighten up this dreary place some." She placed the flowers on the windowsill and persisted to gaze back out at the city below.

She noticed that Guy was still standing there and looked back at him. He was staring at her with mixed emotions and she raised an eyebrow. "Guy? Did you want something else?"

Guy's eyebrows furrowed and he shook his head slowly, seeming disappointed. "No I…so you really do like them?"

Marian was weary, yet felt bothered and somewhat sorry, for he sounded meek and childish. She nodded her head and regarded him sincerely. "I do like them Guy, and thank you for your thoughtfulness."

Guy's blue eyes glimmered and he brightened somewhat. The corners of his mouth upturned into a cocky grin before he left.
