This is my first Velvet Goldmine fic, and it's Brian and Curt when they're together. This is a result of my insomnia on Monday night :)

SPLINTERS
I watch as you bang your fist on the dressing table in frustration, your anger making it shake, causing a bottle of glitter nail polish to roll and fall as if slow motion. It cracks as it hits the cold, hard floor, the glass splintering into pieces, like my emotions when I'm around you. I watch as the glistening blue spills out and stains the ground.
"Are you going to pick that up?" I ask calmly, wanting to break the unbearable silence that hangs in the room. I feel as though it's choking me, I'm slowly dying around you. But how can that be? You are my life.
You turn to me, a look of disgust on your face. "Fuck you Brian" you spit out, storming across and out the room, slamming the door behind you. I close my eyes as the violent thud echoes dully off the walls. I stand up after gathering my senses for a brief moment, and walk over to where the broken bottle lays.
I go to pick it up, my breath catching in slight pain as a shard of splintered glass pierces my skin. You'd think I'd be numb to the pain by now. But I'm not. I feel it worse every time, just the same as each time you leave.
I crouch by the mahogany table, examining the remains of my cheap, Galaxy Blue varnish bottle, realising this is our relationship: fragile, easily broken, yet it can be mended. It seems transparent, but the thick liquid content shows that there is a depth there that we have both only realised.
I sigh and stand up straight, looking at the tormented reflection staring at me from the mirror beneath the glitter and elaborate make up. I smile a little to myself as I notice the door slowly open behind me. "I'm sorry" you mutter, and it all starts over again.
~The End~
