Vayne sighed as he tossed another pebble off of the roof of the workshop. He stared at the spot where his pebble fell off of the roof. While the pattern of him sitting on the roof wasn't anything new, it was the reason behind him sitting up here that was new.
"Vayne? Are you ok?"
"Hu?" Vayne shook his head and looked to the side.
Jess was standing next to him, looking rather concerned about the state of her best friend. She knew how things tended to get under his skin and that when they did; this is where he went to think. Clearing the spot next to him of dust and pebbles she took a seat and waited for him to finally start talking.
Vayne stretched out his legs and looked over at Jess.
"I've always hated people, even after coming here and for once I finally started to ease up." He started.
Jess bit her lip; she had learned the hard way that Vayne was uncomfortable with people.
"But, with the way everyone greeted me I thought I should try to except that. Maybe even extend that kindness with the new comers-"
"Like Anna and Roxis?" Jess interrupted.
"Yeah." Vayne replied.
"What happened Vayne? I only saw you walk out."
Vayne took a deep breath and began to explain what happened earlier that day.
-Flash Back-
"Hey Roxis, do you uh need help?" Vayne asked as he climbed down from the loft. He had been watching Roxis struggle to find the ingredients he needed in the messy workshop.
Which was no surprise to Vayne; especially considering how busy Anna had been, she had almost no time to clean the workshop and no one wanted to mess with the way she had things.
"No." Roxis stated bluntly.
"Oh." Vayne muttered as he made his way over to the cauldron. "Are you sure?"
Roxis pushed up his glasses as he fumbled through a few more beakers. Without answering Vayne's question he continued to work on the daunting task of going through the mess Flay left behind. As Roxis continued to mess around, Vayne stayed where he was, quietly watching.
"What do you want?" Roxis snapped.
"N-nothing." Vayne stuttered, surprised by his sudden outburst.
"Then leave!" Roxis growled.
Vayne was taken aback by the hostility that Roxis was suddenly showing. He knew that Roxis hated him, but he couldn't understand why Roxis would be so angry with him. Had he done something so terrible that Roxis could never forgive him?
"Roxis," Vayne began looking for the right words to say, "why do you hate me so much?"
Roxis hesitated slightly before continuing with his work. Vayne waited for an answer, but it seemed like the longer he waited the less likely it seemed that he would get one.
"Roxis," Vayne started again.
"What Vayne? I don't have time for your childish games and questions."
"But Roxis I just,"
"Just what?" Roxis snapped turning around.
Vayne stared at him oddly, wondering what was going through Roxis's mind. Roxis did hate him, but Vayne had never seen him so mad.
"I just want to know why you hate me."
"Why are you asking?"
"I want to know."
"I don't think I do."
"What?"
"Nothing Vayne." Roxis muttered hoping that it would stop their back and forth banter.
"Roxis I want to know how I can fix this."
"You can't."
"Why not?"
"Because!"
"Because why?" Vayne pushed, he wasn't sure how to handle a situation like this so he was going off of what he had seen Jess and Nikki do during their fights. Though, he was starting to think it wasn't working.
What happened next really shocked Vayne.
Before he could figure it out, Roxis grabbed Vayne and crashed his lips on his.
"I can't tell you why because I don't know!"
"He really did that?" Jess asked.
"Yeah." Vayne sighed as he pulled his knees back up to his chest. "I don't know what to do now."
"Well," Jess started, "how did you feel about the situation?"
"I didn't really hate it."
"Then I think that's a good place to start."
