I got the idea for this story while watching myself play Explorers of Darkness, as a Cyndaquil, and noticed that I often go out of my way to protect my Skorupi partner, more so than my original partner.
Well, I hope you enjoy it.
---
Cinder the Cyndaquil sat at the edge of Sharpedo Bluff, watching the sunset. After a hard day exploring a vast cave, he was pretty tired, and really wanted to relax.
He heard footsteps behind him, and turned, expecting to see his partner, Hookbill the Turtwig. He instead saw his other trusted partner, Skora the Skorupi.
The scorpion scuttled up to him, and sat on the cliff beside the fire type.
"Hey. What'cha up to?" she said.
"Watchin the sunset. You?"
"Ugh, you wouldn't believe the day I've had. Izzie wouldn't shut up or leave me alone." Izzie was the group's last main member. She was a rather ditzy Kirlia who often got on Skora's nerves.
Unfortunately for Skora, the dungeon explored that day was far too dangerous for either of the girls, and so the bug type had to stay with the psychic type.
"Oh, yeah? What happened?" Cinder asked, becoming amused.
"Well first she thought it would be absolutely FABULOUS to wolf down all the grimy food she could find, so I come back to the guild to find green goo EVERYWHERE!"
Cinder stifled a laugh.
"Then, oh God, then, she got a KEY stuck in her eye. The key was ruined, but she was okay…"
Cinder snickered.
"Yeah, well, I finally got her to spend time with Hookbill just to leave me alone," the bug type said.
As the sun disappeared, so did most of its heat. Skora shivered slightly at the dip in temperature.
As she watched the sun set for the day, a warm glow came from her right.
She turned, and saw that Cinder had released fire from his back. He was smiling at her.
She moved over to him, and cuddled up against the Cyndaquil, her body warming up.
Both Pokemon sat at the edge of Sharpedo Bluff, cuddled against each other, Cinder letting of a glow that the romanticizing Hookbill and Izzie could see from the Beach.
