Haven in My Mind
Author: Kuurosuki
Rating: PG
Summary: A sudden vignette that spawned in my mind. Takes place sometime during the series after Ritchie becomes Gear, and is more of a "What if" situation than anything else. Virgil's thoughts on Ritchie and what they result in.
A/N: Just a little something to kick off my return to the world of fanfiction writers. If you know me by another name... Good for you.
Disclaimer: Static Shock does not belong to me, no matter how hard I keep wishing. (sighs unhappily)

I've never been averse to looking at girls.
I just liked looking at Ritchie more: the way his muscles flex when he stretches before patrol; the way his hair falls into his eyes when he lets it grow too long; even the way he eats when he's not really hungry.
That's why I had to do it. For him.
"What's your problem?"
I love you.
"Maybe you've never put any thought into it, but I'm the one who has to watch your back out there. So I'm just saying that you should be a little more careful, and a little more thankful too."
Don't get hurt in front of me.
"I can take care of myself! Stop treating me like I'm just a normal person, I've got--"
Don't get hurt because of me.
"You have nothing, Ritch! You can't teleport, you can't walk through walls, and you can't shoot lasers from your eyes. When it comes to being on the field, you're nothing but a liability!"
Don't get hurt.
"I can't believe you just said that, V. Well, fine, you know, I don't need to hang around with some high-and-mighty superhero who suddenly decides to ditch his partner."
Don't...
"Ritchie..."
"Just when did I start becoming a sidekick, V?"
And then he was gone.
Please... Let me love you...
