They began as a slow friendship. One, who trusts easily, and the other, refusing to open herself to new possibilities.

Over time, over their experiences in the war, witnessing so many deaths, consoling each other after each loss, fighting beside each other, defending each other, they grew closer.

She had never expected it to happen so fast. It startled her to find out the dept of her feelings one night, after a particularly stressful battle and her blow up at Eragon.

Arya had not meant to do that, but the stress of not having the required amount of people to sufficiently win this fight, as well as news of her cousin's injury did her in at last.

She had shouted at Eragon in front of their troops, whilst they were having their dinner. It had started simply, a friendly argument between the two of them. But it escalated soon after, and they begun trading angry words at each other. Soon, they were shouting wild accusations, before she stormed away, tears flowing from her eyes, swearing under her breath.

She had never seen the hurt look that had flashed across his face at every accusation.

She had rushed to her tent, collapsing in her bed roll, crying softly into the makeshift pillow that she had there. She could not help but to feel guilty for all that was said, and for all that was left unsaid.

The next morning, she had searched for him, intent on apologizing.

He was nowhere to be seen, and she went back to her tent sadly, fighting the urge to cry again.

Her mood took a turn for the better when she saw a single red rose lying on her bed roll, with a note from Eragon apologizing for his actions. She had stared at that note, tears pouring from her eyes, the walls around her emotions finally let down.

She didn't notice that he was in the tent until he called her name. Startled, she had turned around, and upon spotting him, had leapt into his arms, before engaging him in a passionate kiss.

That day, she confessed everything she had felt for him, and it marked the start of their relationship.

"Arya?" a groggy voice asked, breaking her from her chain of thoughts.

She was startled back to reality, and she turned to face Eragon, who was lying on the bed, half dressed. "Come back to bed," he implored, using that puppy dog face that she could never resist.

Smiling softly, Arya padded back to the bed, sliding in beside him, cuddling into his chest. She had always felt protected in his embrace, she mused, smiling softly.

"What were you thinking about?" he asked softly, stroking her hair.

"How we came to be," she answered simply, looking up at him, smiling.

He drew her closer, kissing her jet black hair. She sighed with bliss, moving even closer.

It was not long after that they fell asleep, their limbs impossibly entwined.
