Doctor Who
Not Even Human
Author's
Notes: Right. So, I read this fic on Teaspoon about Rose using
the Vortex to get back to the Doctor. And I thought "What a
great idea! But I don't want to seperate her from her family, and
what about what the Doctor said in School Reunion?"
Thus,
this silly little fix-it was born.
If it isn't entirely obvious,
this is post-Doomsday, and as such, contains spoilers for said
episode.

".
. .Bad Wolf Bay." She smiled weakly at him and he saw. .
.something.
"Rose?" He asked in concern, that name, and
that something couldn't be coincidence. He hoped they were,
but he was almost certain they weren't.
"Doctor. . ."
She whispered hoarsely.
"Rose?"
"Doctor. . .can
you. . .will you sing me a song?"
"What?"
"A
song, Doctor." She repeated. "Just. . .sing a song,
yeah?"
He looked at her apprehensively. "Why?"
"Because,"
She said, her voice changing at the end of the word. "It worked
last time." The sun seemed to darken as she spoke, letting the
pale glow coming from her show.
"Rose! No!"
"Don't
worry, my Doctor." She said. "It won't kill me, there's not
enough left." She smiled slightly. "I'm just fulfilling a
promise."
"What?" He asked. "What promise?"
"I
said I'd stay with you forever." She reached toward him, and for
a moment, nothing seemd to happen. Then his figure seemed to
disappear. Just out of sight and sound range, the Tardis appeared,
and he was back in front of her. "As long as forever is to you."
She smiled again and the Vortex began to seep out of her. She fell
forward.
Without thinking, the Doctor reached out to catch her.
His jaw wasn't the only one to drop when it worked. He
recovered quickly and lowered her to the ground, catching her wrist
to check for a pulse and hardly noticing when Jackie, Mickey, and
Pete joined him at Rose's side. Steady double-pulse he decided before
pausing. Wait, double-pulse? He checked again. Still, a steady
double-pulse. But, he thought urgently, humans don't have
two hearts. At least, not the last time he'd checked.
Rose
stirred a bit and opened her eyes. She smiled at him first, the
looked over at her mother.
"You were right, mum," She
mumbled, half-way back to unconsciousness. "Not even human."
