"Okay, try it now," Trip said as he placed his tool on the table.
Katie pressed a button on her Chrono Morpher, and the static that had been there every time she pressed it before was gone. "Trip, you're amazing!" She grabbed him in a hug (and thought she heard Trip murmur something about bruised ribs, but figured it was just her imagination again). "It's been driving me crazy all day. You have no idea how grateful I am."
Trip somehow squirmed away, not looking her in the eye. "I'm just trying to be useful--"
Katie felt something between sympathy and annoyance. She knew Trip would probably never have as much faith in himself as she did, but one of these days he would have to realize how important he was to the team-- not just the team, to her. "You don't have to try to be anything. Trip, this team would fall apart if it weren't for you." She placed a hand on his shoulder, pulling him back to her. "I mean, what good would we and all our machines be if you weren't here to makes sure the machines run right?"
He smiled, but he still wasn't looking at her-- which Katie decided to take to her advantage and stole a kiss.
Trip was finally looking at her now, eyes wide.
"I know we don't seem grateful for what you do for the team, but we are. I am, at least. Don't ever think otherwise. Thank you."
He kept staring at her... and then gave Katie the shock of her life when Trip (almost painfully shy Trip) stole the kiss back.
Trip was smiling again. "No. Thank you."
