What a predicament.

Edward glared at the far shore of the lake. He could see the humble unassuming town of prickly pines through the summer haze. He sighed, and then sighed again louder, but the sound refused to wake up the sleeping bundle on his lap.

What a predicament, he thought again.

A scout didn't have to walk far up the lakeshore to accidentally run into them. Ooh, imagine their shock when they walk up to find Edward looking guilty with a snoozing monkey on his lap. They might even laugh at him. Edward gritted his teeth at the thought.

Lazlo snored happily. Edward found himself running his fingers through the monkey's hair. It wasn't like it was a particularly pleasant sensation, Lazlo's hair was greasy with sweat from the summer heat, but he couldn't seem to stop himself.

He looked down at Lazlo's sleeping face a smile curving up the corners of his lips as he enjoyed a worry free life even in his sleep. Edward felt a pang of jealousy. He hardly ever had any happy dreams, why should Lazlo get the pleasure, and how can Lazlo sleep so soundly while he, Edward, suffered. Weren't they lovers now? Shouldn't he get something out of this deal?

He forced his hand away from Lazlo's hair and mulled this over for a bit, then a thought came to him, an evil thought. He grinned to himself then, after making a show of glancing left and right, he pulled a marker out of his pocket and scrawled a big "L" on Lazlo's forehead.

He laughed to himself imagining Lazlo's embarrassment should someone spot the huge honking "L" on his forehead. He knew Lazlo enough to know that Lazlo had an amazing way of turning these situations to his advantage and soon the whole camp will be sporting letters on their heads. Still, he could dream couldn't he?

He leaned back admiring his handy work. Then he went back to staring at the lake. a few minutes later his hand found it's way to Lazlo's hair again.

What a predicament…
