It wasn't something that had come over night. It was more of a slow seething process that seemed more than half an agony. Yet, she had no time to allow that agony to sink into her. There was always worked to be done.
Her onyx eyes drifted to her small son, who was sitting upside down, watching some anime. She smiled lightly as her half agony drifted over her for a moment. She quickly brushed it to the back of her mind when that little face turned to her and grinned. Her half-joy burst into her and filled her with a lightness.
She turned from him as the half-joy warmed her. She frowned a bit though when her eyes drifted to the date on the calendar. This wasn't the most pleasant time of year. It was always a remembrance of the empty spot at her table. She shifted uneasily as memories washed over her.
She wrung her hands together and swallowed back the tears that were threatening to form There wasn't time for this now.
"Goten-Chan, are you hungry?" She called to her son. The little boy set up with a start. His eyes widen with excitement at the thought of an afternoon snack.
"Oh please mama! Please!" The little one cried as he dashed into the kitchen. Her smiled speared as her half-joy dashed about her. His little face still chubby with the last stages of toddler-hood beginning to fade. She reached down and placed him in that empty spot that had given her the half-agony earlier and clapped her hand together in determination.
She wouldn't let the joy be half any longer. It would be a whole one instead.
