Swapping Doesn't Matter
Donald and Douglas was at their sheds, arguing about something that was making Duck, Oliver, and Ryan go nuts. Ever since they came back from Scotland, the two of them have been arguing about who is better.
"I am!"
"No, I am!"
"I am!"
"No, I am!"
"Shut up you two, and let us sleep!"
"Thank you Duck."
"Oh it's nothing Oliver."
Ryan jokingly said to the twins, "Switch jobs then you'll see."
With that the three quiet engines went to sleep. The Scottish Twins looked at each other. They felt like Ryan's joke was an actual test for them to see who is better.
"Alright Donal, you do my job, and I'll do yours."
"Sounds good to me, Dougie."
The twins smiled, and fell asleep.
The next day, Donald went to the yard for Douglas's cars, which were to be sent to the docks, and Douglas went to the yard for Donald's cars, which were to be sent to the Blue Mountain Quarry.
"Alrighty Donal, lets see who's better."
"It'll be me Dougie, and you'll see."
With that, Donald left for the docks, and Douglas went for the quarry.
Salty was shunting cars with Porter, into a line for Douglas to pull. They were surprised to see Donald come up.
"Arr, matey, did the manager think that you are Douglas?"
"No Salty, I'm here instead."
"Are you sure about this Donald?"
"Yes I am Porter. Load me up."
The dockside engines shared a look, then shunted the trains. Donald was off with his long train up the Ulfstead Castle.
Paxton was busy organizing the heavy slate beds so Donald could take them to Brendam Docks. The Narrow Gauge engines were all waiting for Donald, and were surprised when they saw Douglas pull up.
Luke puffed forwards. "Are you Donald?"
Douglas looked kindly and Luke and said, "No, Luke, I'm Douglas, Donald's twin brother."
Luke looked surprised. "Oh, I thought Donald was coming here."
"He was, but we decided to switch jobs. Just for today."
"Oh, I did that once with Millie, but it didn't go as planned. I'm sure you two will be better. After all, you guys are twins."
With that, Luke chuffed happily away. Douglas looked at Luke and smiled. Then he started puffing towards the docks.
Everywhere they went, the engines were surprised. The twins were happy to see that they could do all of their twin's jobs without messing up. As the day ended, the twins returned to their sheds.
"You know Dougie, I think that we are just as good as each other."
"Right you are Donal, right you are."
"Ryan, thank you for the idea."
Ryan was surprised. "Donald, you do know that was a joke right?"
"We take this matter seriously, but not now."
"We are all very useful."
With that, all the engines laughed and went to sleep.
