warning jyoumi (this isn't a song-fic, i just added two lines of the chorus at the end)

there's a promise to be fulfilled

we've gone so far together, but you dropped out halfway. the story's not done without you, baby.

She remembers their first meeting.

They are at an amusement park. It seems like such a strange place to begin a friendship, or even something more. It's simply an accident — he knocks into her and spills his drink all over her.

But she falls for him the first time she sees him. She's sure he feels the same way. They start seeing each other more and more, and it turns out some of their friends are acquainted, particularly her best male friend — his closest colleague.

She thinks this is fate telling them that they are meant to be.

His definition of a date is simple — a trip to the amusement park. They would ride all the rides, try out all the food and do everything possible there. The smiles never leave their faces every time they go there.

I thought our story was meant to go on forever, and I was happy. I was just waiting for the day that you would carry me in your arms and whisper how much you loved me.

He has always been a very honest person. Whenever he makes promises, he always keeps them. No one ever doubts him to fail them, and he never lets them down. He seems like the perfect guy for her.

Then in the blink of an eye, he is moving away to another country to get a medical degree. She's upset and she doesn't hide it. He reassures her that he will come back, that he's not disappearing for eternity.

"When I come back, we'll go to the amusement park again and relive our youthful experiences," he promises on the night she can't sleep.

She foolishly believes that he will keep his promise.

Every night, she thinks about him before she drifts into oblivion, memories of his promise slipping into her mind just before she loses consciousness. In their emails to each other, he always assures her that the promise will be kept, and she has never once doubted his words.

But over the years, they both get busier. She has her cooking shows, he has his medical degree to clinch. The emails lessen, and they slowly fall out of touch. She should've seen it coming, because it's just so obvious that this would happen.

Eventually, he replies her last email, telling her that he's coming home, and her heart beats faster and faster at the prospect of their reunion. Every night before she goes to bed, she tells herself that she's seeing him again, that he's returning to her.

Once he returns, she waits. Waits for him to honour his promise, but he never does.

The worst part is, he comes back with a fiancée.

He announces proudly that he is getting married in two months, right here in Odaiba so that it's more convenient for their friends and family (humph, turns out the woman's a Japanese too).

She's happy for him. She truly is, but she still feels upset that the promise is long forgotten. Though she admits she's glad for him, she still feels herself breaking every time someone brings up the topic of his marriage.

Can't deny, can't deny you're worth it

'Cause after all this time I'm still into you

Still into You (Paramore)
