Author Note: Here is a new story for you all that popped into my head the other day! Hope you like it! As I'm sure you have all noticed, I'm a big Bran fan and don't think he deserves to have to be with a bitch ('scue the pun) like Leah. :¬D
This starts off during the time Anna and Charles are in the cage in the basement after Charles gets shot and everything else that happens will be set throughout Patricia Briggs books - Alpha and Omega series!
Read and enjoy! :D
Introduction
Bran's head tilted to the side as the faint whine of a wolf reached his ears. He frowned as he looked around the basement before locating a second door; it had been almost invisible to even his eyes.
Before he was even able to take a step towards it, Boyd had run down the stairs and opened the door. The scent of a female wolf, blood and pup reached his nose and made him pause. It didn't last long, as seconds later he was striding after the new Alpha to investigate, his curiosity spiked. However, he was unprepared for the sight that would greet him.
Boyd rushed down the stairs and into a room similar to the basement above; the walls and floor were grey – though down here the walls and floor were made of concrete and was newer than the bricks of the cellar above. The room also contained a cage, its bars obviously containing silver. This room, however, contained no furniture; there was not even a rug on the floor to stop the cold from seeping into your bones. The only good thing to be said about the place was the room was obviously set at a constant temperature and had its own air supply.
Lying demurely on the cold stone floor was a She-Wolf, licking the birthing blood off her newborn pup. His nose told him what his eyes failed to and his mind refused to believe. She was a werewolf.

I looked up as Boyd entered the room and tried to push myself to my feet, growling. I trembled as I stood over my young, my body still weak from giving birth. Boyd lowered himself to his hands and knees and showed me his neck submissively; to show me he was no threat to me or my pup. His lowered position, however, gave me a perfect view of the man behind him.
I studied him for a moment before deciding he was safe, and wouldn't hurt either of us, and moved back to lay back on the floor by my pup.
Boyd turned to him and asked him to get the doctor.
I let myself relax into the floor as the doctor examined the both of us while I stared at the stranger who stood in the doorway, my eyes never leaving his. I knew it wasn't a wise thing to do yet I felt no threat from him. I was very curious about this stranger; I knew who he was, but what I wanted to know was what he was doing here.
After a while I laid my head down on the floor again, too tired to try to figure out what was going on. Leo had been killed – the emotional turmoil of the loss of the pack's Alpha had forced my birth (not that that was a problem, considering I only had a few more days until I'd have reached full term). Boyd was the new Alpha. And the Alpha of all Alphas was currently in front of me.
I promptly decided I didn't care, turned my attention back to my pup and carried on cleaning her. The doctor shuddered in disgust and I looked up at him. I gave him the wolf equivalent of a raised eyebrow and he backed off and out of the cage, leaving enough room for the Alpha to get in. He sat against the wall opposite to watch me.
When the pup was finally clean, I moved her closer with my paw so that she could suckle and grumbled when she bit down too hard. From my sprawled position I looked at the werewolf in front of me when he started to talk, too tired to move and act attentive. Instead I showed him I could be submissive. He knew that I was in a vulnerable position right now; stomach, neck and pup all facing him. We both knew that in my weakened state, even with him still in human form, I would be unable to protect my pup if he decided to hurt her.
I watched him as he spoke. He was definitely handsome, though many would see him as unremarkable. He was slender with a gentle face and the boyish looks of a college student. His eyes were the only things that gave away his age; an age that had long past and many had forgotten. An age only remembered in history books and fairy-tales.
He explained what had happened today and that he had to take his injured son home but he would be back the following day to take me to live in his pack in Montana. He wanted me to rest before taking me on a plane and to pack everything I owned. I blinked at him. Did he think I had just given birth as a wolf for the fun of it? I had nothing; no clothes, no money… nowhere to stay. This cage had been my home, prison and torture chamber all in one for the past three and a half years. I had no family. No friends. The outside world thought I was dead.
Boyd spoke quietly from outside the door, trying to explain everything to him. His anger was palpable in the air and a low warning growl broke from my chest making my pup freeze. I didn't give a damn who this man was. There was no way I was letting him start a fight in this small enclosed space with my pup in the room! He could damn well take it somewhere else!
I took a deep breath and raised myself to feet, placing myself above my pup in a protective, aggressive stance.
His gaze focused on me for a moment before he turned and strode out of the room. I didn't need the hearing of a wolf to tell me what was going on. He snarled and growled at Boyd in the human tongue and seconds later Boyd came hurrying in, explaining to me that he needed to move me to one of the rooms above.
I snarled and snapped at him when he went to touch my pup and he immediately moved back. I kept my eyes on his as I bent and picked my pup up in my mouth, being careful not to hurt her.
Before I could walk more than a few steps, the Alpha – Bran, I think his name was – was in front of me, holding out his arms for the pup in my mouth. I stared into his eyes. He was as unstable as the others but he was old and he was strong. He wouldn't let his wolf harm my pup. Slowly, my eyes locked on his, I lowered her into his arms and watched as he cradled her like a human baby, an awed look on his face. I didn't understand why everyone was so amazed by the fact I'd given birth. There had been an uproar when they realised I was pregnant too.
I nudged his thigh with my nose. I didn't have a lot of energy as it was and if he wanted me to make it up three flights of stairs he had better get moving.
He seemed to get the message and turned towards the stairs pausing to let me go first to set the pace. He obviously knew how I felt about having someone at my back, but with my pup in his arms I knew he was practically incapable of attacking me for the time being.
I managed to get out of both basements before I had to pause. I was exhausted and stood there for a moment to catch my breath, staring at the sun filtering in through the open door. It was the first time in three and a half years that I had seen the sun… It was beautiful… And now I would have all the time in the world to look at it. Thanks to Bran.
I made my way past all the other werewolves in the house in a daze and made my way up to the bedroom Boyd pointed out. It was a guest bedroom and free from the scent of any of the werewolves who had ever touched me.
Bran moved into the room ahead of me and placed the pup on the pillow before turning to me. He frowned in a mixture of sadness and anger at the look of defeat in my eyes, when faced with the dilemma of getting up onto the bed. Any energy I had left had totally left me now and I knew there was no way I'd be able to get up onto the bed. Before I could start lowering myself down onto the floor, Bran had gently scooped me up, laid me on the bed and placed my pup close to my stomach.
I grumbled a thankful noise and swiftly fell asleep.
