His bed head looked awful and his clothing hung off his frame haphazardly. Yet, as he lay in bed, arms outstretched, he couldn't help but smile at today's date. March 23rd was colored green, white, and red in glitter glue with stares doodled all over it. His smile only grew as he reached for his phone and found he already had one voice mail. He didn't have to play it just yet, he already knew what it said. Flipping his phone open he typed the words every citizen of Poland would say at least once that day, if not many more. He hit send with a content sigh and played the voice mail,

Hungary lept off the couch and ran for her phone as soon as she heard the 'ping' of a new message. She snatched the phone off her dresser and read the message that would always make her day, or make her entire week,

"Lengyel, magyar — két jó barát, együtt harcol s issza borát. Happy Friendship day Felix!"

[ Polak, Węgier — dwa bratanki,

i do szabli, i do szklanki,

oba zuchy, oba żwawi,

niech im Pan Bóg błogosławi.

Happy friendship day Eliza! ]

The rest of the day would be spent at each other's houses, shopping and visiting. It made each of them swell with joy to see the parades and parties each had planed. In Hungary Felix felt at home, he may been surrounded by people he had never met, but they where hardly strangers. When Hungary came to Poland's house she was shown around by locals who realized Hungarian when they heard it. In an all round way the day went absolutely perfect. It was one of those friendships that seemed so light and airy, but it is so much deeper than what it seems. No friendship has yet compared to Hungary and Poland.

On a historical note ~~~

Us Poles and Hungarians share a very [VERY] long friendship! Over a thousand years!

I think Wikipedia puts it well enough:

"On 12 March 2007, Hungary's parliament declared 23 March "Hungarian-Polish Friendship Day", with 324 votes in favor, none opposed, Four days later, the Polish parliament declared 23 March "Polish-Hungarian Friendship Day"

"After World War II, during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, Poles demonstrated their support for the Hungarians by donating blood for them; by 12 November 1956, 11,196 Poles had donated"

"Both countries are full members of NATO, joining it on the same day (March 12, 1999) and are also both members of the European Union"

When Hungary was on the axis side some of their soldiers even joined Polish soldiers in fighting or gave them weapons.

despite being part of the axis, Admiral Horthy refused to help speed the invasion of Poland , because of long-standing Polish-Hungarian friendship. "The Hungarian refusal allowed the Polish government and tens of thousands of military personnel to escape into neighboring Hungary and Romania." There is so much more, But I think the historical side note is longer then the actual FanFaction at this point so I'll leave it at that. :P

Translations:

Polish: Pole and Hungarian cousins be,

good for fight and good for party.

Both are valiant, both are lively,

Upon them may God's blessings be.

Hungarian: Pole and Hungarian — two good friends,

joint fight and drinking are their ends.
