Once upon a time there was a story that was entirely out of character because the author hadn't caught up on the show in longer than she cared to admit. There were two girls. One named Annie, and one named Britta. Some stupid boy was making fun of Britta's name and singing "hey, batter batter batter" at her. It wasn't very clever. Or maybe it was. Since her name was on pitchers of water. And pitchers and batters… well they were in the same game. She was trying to ignore the boy, but she hated those stupid water filters with a fiery passion. She knew if she said anything, it would only make things worse, so she sat there clenching her jaw and trying to will herself deaf.
Annie got back from the bathroom as Britta was reaching her limit. She could tell that her friend was ready to blow, but she had a better idea. She walked past the boy's desk "accidentally" whacking in in the face with her purse. "Oh, I'm so sorry," she said, her voice dripping with false sweetness. "I didn't even see you." She smirked. Then she bent down to pick something up off the floor near the boy. "Oh my god," she said in a loud whisper, "are these yours?" she asked, sounding scandalized, putting the box of Midol on his desk where everyone could see. "Cramps must be really bad this month, huh?"
The boy sputtered, turning redder by the second. He had no idea what was happening. "I… no… you… I… what?" he finally managed.
"It's okay, I understand. It's hard being a girl." she smirked, taking her seat next to Britta.
Britta smiled at her gratefully, trying to convince herself that it would be inappropriate to kiss Annie in the middle of a classroom. It wasn't the right time.
But then Annie did that thing where she shrugged and looked all innocent, and acted like she hadn't done anything worth being grateful for, and Britta couldn't take it any more. She glanced around to see if anyone was paying attention, and when she was sure they weren't, she leaned over, giving Annie a quick peck on the cheek.
The look on her face was priceless.
"Thank you," she whispered in Annie's ear, as she leaned back in her seat and laced their fingers together under the desk.
"You're welcome."
