Damn it! Damn it! What the hell was I thinking? Micah said kicking himself for using his power in public. All these years spent running and hiding from cops and orphanages and mall security since he was 16 and now, at the age of 18 he would have thought he has it down packed by now, But not this time.
Stupid! Stupid! Stupid Micah exclaimed through exasperated breaths. He had to have been running from the cops for about fifteen minutes before he ducked into a narrow alley on the streets of Manhattan New York. Marrow is going to kill me Micah said sinking down to the cold concrete with his face in his hands.
Micah Murphy you've really stepped in it this time.
Micah had just turned 18 last Friday. A Friday Micah thought at first was a day his luck changed for the best. For a year and a half Micah used his abilities to survive in Manhattan New York after running away from The Village orphanage when he was 16. He was using his abilities to steal money and food from people on the street and bodega's until he ran into a band of teenage thieves who called themselves the Morlocks.
Micah lifted his face from his hands and checked to see if the cost was clear he looked to the sky to see if he could shadow meld to keep himself safe from sight but the sun was too high and no shadows were being casted on the ground.
I guess I'm just gonna have to keep an eye out for those cops until I can cast myself. Casting was a term Micah liked to use for his unique ability to blend with and manipulate shadows he also had the ability to read any object or person he touches. He had only been with the Morlocks for a week and they had already darned him with the codename Shade.
Micah step out from the alley and made a mad dash for the subway entrance two blocks from where he was. He felt safer as he descended the stair into the dark edifice and his body began to melt away into shadow. He managed to slither past the subway patrons unseen and glide all the way down to the tracks.
He found a vacant track and used it to navigate to the abandoned tunnel the Morlocks called home. Where is he he heard a voice say as he approached a group of Morlocks lounging around a fire pitched in a big rusty old oil drum. I'm hungry!
I dunno leech said a raven haired woman with a tribal tattoo of an Unk on her face. Wait she said with a twinge of urgency in her voice. I can sense him. He's here. He's hiding. I'm not hiding Micah Said as he slowly started to reform from the shadows. I'm sorry Callisto I almost got caught.
I'm not the one your gonna need to be apologizing to she said looking past Micah's shoulder . Micah swung around to see what caught Callisto's eye.
Shade you've returned said the red haired woman standing behind him.
She was horribly disfigured with fragments of sharp jagged bone protruding out of her skin.
Marrow Micah managed to say through the fear clogging his throat…
I can only assume by the growling in poor leech's stomach that you have failed she said
Yes Marrow but I was almost caught I barely made it back in one peace he said
Then you shouldn't have returned at all! Marrow yelled. As the Leader of the Morlocks it is my duty to ensure the well being of the clan. So when I chose a member of the group to perform a duty for the clan I would assume that I'm making a good decision. Your failure has proven me wrong, and I HATE to be wrong.
But Marrow Micah protested but Micah's cries were quickly shattered by a harsh kick to the face. I have entrusted you with the well being of this family your task was merely to get enough found for six people and bring it back here, and you return empty handed. Marrow said towering over Micah as he held his face in his hands.
Go back and do not return until you have found food …. she said. Callisto she shouted go with him and make sure he succeeds
